Didn't have a TV in the house until I was 10, mainly because my parents couldn't afford one. Even then the only channel on TV was CBC. BTW: Guess what won't be available if it comes down around your ankles? Meds. Before you go on about age and wisdom, I might point out that all those meds in your blister pack and bathroom cabinet come from stores and with no factories, whats in there is as long as you live. |

They had been told it was to the East of them - all you have to do is keep the Sun in approximately the right position, and you will keep your course more-or-less true. If you're walking for more than an hour or two, you can estimate the Sun's movement and allow for it. And none of them can fish..... Oh dear! In the camp: First night I would find North using the stars, and put a marker on the ground - then next day I would make a rough'n'ready sundial, so at least you'd have an idea of the passing of time. |

Quoted to add: They obviously won't have watches - but anyone who went back to that situation after TSHTF, would almost certainly have at least one (I have a number of good quality manual watches) If you have a watch, you can work out direction quite easily by pointing the hour hand at the Sun, and using a simple bit of mental arithmetic. |

What for? Just about everything they do is dependent on daylight. If you have an approximation of the time, you can manage what daylight you have far more effectively. |
