Like someone mentioned above avoid hanging with old drinking buddies. Find something you enjoy doing or a hobby you like, it's called redirecting your energy. I will say your problems don't go away but become easier to deal with. |

Higgs Bozo (OP) User ID: 62470748 United States 02/11/2015 05:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I really dont want to quit but I know I probably should. I cant have one or two beers. I start feeling really good at about 7-8. Then everything else after is icing on the cake. I binge when I dont have to work the next day. Thinking of going cold turkey for awhile to put my tolerance in check at least. Last Edited by Gimme 3 Steps on 02/11/2015 05:58 PM No matter what you do, you'll never run from you. |

KungPowMeowMeow User ID: 65289408 United States 02/11/2015 06:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I quit when I was 32 because I decided that it wasn't worth the hangover and just stopped. Mind over matter. I didn't "try" to quit, I just quit. If I had decided to "try" (like I had many times) I would have put too much thought into it and break under the pressure. With smoking, I decided thatI hated to smell like it after 15 yrs and quit two yrs ago, but I will have one every once in a while, which is how it works for me. I can still have one whenever I want, but because the habit and physical addiction are gone, I don't feel the urge to go crazy. No withdrawals with either. Maybe set small goals so you don't overwhelm yourself and set yourself up to fail. Go a week and then reward yourself. "Fortune, honour, beauty, youth are but blossoms dying. Wanton pleasures, doting love are but shadows flying." ---Thomas Campion |

Did some real dumb things while under the influence......went cold turkey and at the same time went gluten free. Believe it or not I've lost taste and desire for beer And a added benefit. Lost 40 lbs in the mean time. It's been going on three years now.....give it a try |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 57904627 United States 02/11/2015 07:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been sober for eight years know and I love it. 25 years ago I bought a bar & grill and set out to make my million HAHA my business to this point has done well except during obamas first turn life was hard and still is to a point. ( my wife and I have not been able to afford health ins since he got in , but that's a whole other topic.) Amyway my daughter was pregnant with our first grandchild and. I started to look at life a little differnt I relized that being drunk by 1 o'clock everyday was not who I wanted to be I HATED myself . My motivation was my grand children and what my relationship would be with them. One night laying in bed watching monday night football just starting my second drunk of the the day I became so disappointed in my shelf I just decided no matter what enough was enough, so I quit ,and have NOT REGRETED it one bit. Belive it or not I still own the bar and I'm here 16 hrs a day ,yes at times it can be be hard but not for the reasons you think. All the alcohol does not bother my one bit. I don't miss it ,and would gladly help any patron I have quiet .if that's what they turly wanted to do. The hardest part is knowing there is a whole differnt life out there just waiting to be explored throw sober eyes, but everything my wife and I have is tied up in this business and at 60 years old I can't afford to give it away The lesson I guess I'm saying is if you think you have a problem you do . Don't torment yourself fors years trying to answer the question you've know the answer to for years. Yes you can do it on your own you just need to belive in yourself . |
