Totalitarianism is only necessary in a society where people are smart enough to see through the game.

Otherwise, superficial democratic republic conjoined to sporadic mysterious killings and disappearances (of the few who can see) is generally sufficient to govern populations in the modern world. This also keeps the masses content, believing that they are in control. Maximize and compromise between control and productivity.

This is why you have seen the former Soviet Union fall apart and others have followed. They learned that totalitarianism is not necessarily a good balance. Very few populations (if any) in history have actually been conscious enough to justify it. But this took a great long time to learn. And let's just be honest here, totalitarianism can be quite fun if you are a sociopath who does not think pragmatically. In the modern global scientific dictatorship that is emerging you will see less and less open dictatorship and more usage of carrot/stick type psychological manipulation - mind the stick.

Just something to keep in mind for those who expecting an NWO. It may not be what you expect. It will be all about illusion and deception.

There may be disruptive events that change everything, however. If and when automation and robotics evolves to the point that mankind for the most part ceases to serve much purpose, then depop may ensue in earnest. But also, you cannot sacrifice robots. And also TPTB may fear artificial intel more than they fear humanity. Think about it.
