FYI!!!
This morning I was running a few minutes late for somewhere I had to be that was an hour drive away via freeway.
As I got on the freeway I followed a state trooper who was also getting on the freeway. I followed behind him. He was speeding. I thought to myself that it would be safe to follow a state trooper that was speeding as long as I kept my distance behind him.
He was going over 80 in a 60. After about ten minutes of following him he pulled over, let me pass, and immediately got behind me and pulled me over.
He told me that I was going 81 in a 60, which was probably true. He asked me where I was going so fast and why I was speeding. I told him that I was just following him. He said "yeah so does that give you the right to speed?" I told him I was just following him and asked him if he was above the law and allowed to speed. He said yes that he had the right to speed if he is trying to catch up to someone who is speeding. The only thing is that he was not trying to catch up to anyone, he was just speeding away.
He gave me a $206 ticket. The ticket says he got my speed via radar! I had a very hard time believing that a state trooper has the ability to radar somebody while he himself is speeding and radar that person who is following behind him!
I have pre-paid legal to go to court for me. The attorney told me that it is possible that a state trooper can get somebody behind him on radar that is going in the same direction as him just by having radar detector on the back end of his patrol car.
FYI! It sucks to be me, stupid me, lesson learned the hard way. DON'T SPEED!!!
