What happened to music in the last two decades?

There is still some good music out there I think, but we cannot find it through the channels we were accustomed to. Did you know what happened to kasey kasem?

Word of mouth means a lot less than it did-culture has to re-learn what it's own musical "values" are if it going to survive.
I, for one, do not think Katy Perry is doing a good job of representing western music cultural values-a village idiot would be ashamed of her fake doo-wop.

We have more music and more access to free music than at any other time in history. Its radio that sucks...but who cares we have the web now. Music now is SO F'ING GOOD its unreal. Even the pop stuff. You wanna have your mind blown? Check out "Postmodern Jukebox" on youtube. They do old-timey covers of modern pop music. They make Nicky Minaj sound like classy jazz music its nuts.

Sorta like Paul Anka doing Smells Like Teen Spirit and Pat Boone doing Crazy Train? LOL. Thanks but I'm not sure I can take it.

I don't think so. Its a group of excellent musicians. You can imagine it to be however you want and close yourself off to it or actually listen to it and love it or hate it or whatever. That's on you LOL.

It sounds like you're just describing POP music, in which case I agree with you. There are amazing bands appearing all the time, you've just go to know where to look for them. It depends what floats your boat, but there's good new music in every genre. If I knew what you used to like I could probably recommend something...

I'm 30 and I listen to the oldies station... because the other stations simply suck. It's all POP.

It's all fun party, drink, fun party happy.

Why do you think every rock station plays older stuff and not the nu metal cookie monster stuff.

Face it with the exception of a few jewels here and there, music has been pretty bad for about the last 20 years.

We need a good hank williams, jonny cash, kurt cobain type to come in and shake things up a bit. Something for the emo people. Adele was almost it but she's too whiny, but her music is good.


I think people simply lack character/balls, and it is showing in the music. It's all PC generic sounding crap.

And the music that isn't that way, is bad because it tries too hard to NOT be pop, ala cookie monster vocals, rap lyrics being intentionally derrogatory, or just plain bad. Country music songs all being about drinking..... like every fucking song.

People have a valid reason to hate modern music. But those same people are to blame. If you like good music you need to vote with your money. Because they wouldn't be making this crap if people weren't buying it.

hindi music was prettty good til 1997,,in fact there were good songs till 2005
then it suddenly went down
our musicians stared copying western songs and their life style and i can listen to no songs produced by bolywood now

Don't forget to add MTV to your list.

Music became more about pretty faces and epic videos and less about raw talent.

Personally, I felt the final nail in the music coffin was after 9/11.

A lot of things died that day.

Blame the public school system that portrays only socialistic group think in their social engineering indoctrination program. What happened to the Music Industry and Media in the last two decades.

Music on itself continued to move and shake, but was not to be seen or heard on Major records or Media.
And that is done intentionally just as it is done with education, art, culture, morals and many other aspects of our lives.

It is all about control, and desire from controllers to have obedient, do not ask much, buy a lot, kind of populace.

There was a big earthquake in the Los Angeles area January 1994 that did serious damage to the entertainment industry/music there... this may have been one of the things that affected music, as well as a generational shift.

The "big band"-- jazz influence faded as well, as many of those artists got very old and/or died off. The internet also had an eroding effect.

My ears hurt now.

Its like this... Music is a controlled substance. Change the message of music and you mold an entire generation, same thing goes for mass media. TPTB have things right where they want them and if they wanted positivity in the air then the feeling of 70s through 90's music would have never left. But there this thing called balance... In order to enjoy good times, you have to have bad times. Dont be so quick to say humans are bad on their own, blame the music and entertainment outlets PERIOD.

I love Unkle! Good tunes.

But I know what OP's saying. There's still good new music, but it feels like we're in some kind of time loop where a lot of music and movies too are being recycled.

Especially with rock and pop music. Same ol thing, in a different package.
