Re: Highway Patrol Error Results In Hellish Roadside Experience For Classic Car Owner
Why is it whenever they transpose a VIN digit the car that comes up is stolen? I'm calling bullshit. Somebody needs to run the VIN they accodentally typed in and see what comes up. $20 says they lied about that too. Another $20 says it doesn't even come up as anything at all. Assholes.

This is the kinda shit that happens when they hire Mushmouth from Fat Albert to run dispatch with her weave and nail extentions.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67792878

You normally do not run the VIN. You run the tag and maybe just MAYBE ( I usually didn't w/o a good reason) verify the VIN. On a 1964 Chevy, with no title if there was a transposition of the VIN , the tie goes to the citizen with an admonition to check heir paperwork and find out what the problem is. Losers who act like teenagers with Daddy'd badge who have been taught by the whore seeking more federal dollars, federal castoff 5 ton trucks ( yes...we one got 2 and the fairhaired politicians babies officers got to drive them). Then they got 9 count 'em 9 unneeded tow bars, very expensive costing 1000s of $$$$ and left hidden outside the jail in the rain....dumb bastards. The only thing he ever got worth a shit for the individual were some ammo boxes stacked up in back which are handy for many things, the other thing was some entrenching tools which are a little bit handy at rare times. Being a peace officer is not what it used to be ad they hire scary little suburbanites who never saw a black hardly or an hispanic and are c=scared to work the violent blocks in the jail. My first day there I worked the violent blocks-capital murderers and nobody asked me what I wanted. Mason ic connections rule alll. The top must be 33rd and too stupid to know that there is a power that can easily break their bonds from a Lucifer worshiping orngi=anization that is above the 33rd degree...just over a mytical story of the alleged murder of a heathen King c 980-959 BD.....really relevant....ooops they forgot GOD though.

Clearly when it is too late!

We are well into that awkward stage when it is far too late to reform the system from within but too early (?) for the inevitable bloodshed of revolution.

It is not pleasing, no! It is, however, disgusting that many officers can not grasp civil law...serve and protect, not harras with extreem prejudice and use of deadly force before using logic and procedure to asses the perceived threat or situation. Police should not be issued guns until their 5th year on the job, because it is evident they are being tought poorly.
I guess if the driver was a illeagle he would have been let go, given a full tank of gas and a coupon for a car wash.

Wow. Guns drawn shouting commands and partial strip search on the side of the road for an elderly couple who never once presented any threat and complied with every order... and then jail!

Every one of those cops should be fired.

Damned disgusting

Poor people were terrified.

I really do not understand why cops in this situation do not just walk to the car, obviously older people and talk to them without guns. Why this need for some sort of swat team mentality. What would have happened if the gentleman could not take his shirt off and kneel down due to age/disability. what if they simply did not understand ie. deaf or different language? Would they get beat up/shot?

I have not been to America although i have always held it in high esteem but lately i really do not want to come and i feel it is falling apart. Not saying uk is perfect, we have issues with immigrants but nothing like i have just watched.

I had a similar thing happen on my motorcycle. Me and my girlfriend pulled up to a taco joint . two squads box us in guns pulled screaming commands some conflicting. People around watching. They realized they made a mistake once I produced my registration and insurance. They couldn't get outta there fast enough.

They did apologize for the way they behaved though.

It's been withheld that they can deny hiring for police if they have too high of an IQ, and apparently they're going for just above the level for being brilliant enough to tie shoes

Re: Highway Patrol Error Results In Hellish Roadside Experience For Classic Car Owner
This reminds me of an incident that happened about 15 years ago in Texas. I was driving down to San Antonio from Wichita on I-35 and it was in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve/Christmas. I had to work all day and then started the drive after I got off of work.

I have a blowout somewhere outside of Waco in the middle of nowhere. So I walk back to a service station and call and get a tow truck that shows up at the truck stop I was at. They drive me back to my car. When we pull up, there is a police vehicle behind my car.

So we get out of the truck, which I was a little leery of getting into in the first place with the guys that showed up, and the police then proceed to tell me that they are going to have to take me in because my VIN came back as stolen. I go on to say that I don't see how that is possible, producing my insurance, tags, etc., to the police. They then tell me that my tags have come back as stolen as well.

Meantime, the guys (who I were initially afraid of) finished switching out the tire and could have just left because they already had their money, but they just kind of stand a few feet away and watch what is going on between me and the police.

At this point, they are still telling me that they are going to have to take me in and I mention the fact that I work for a law firm (intentionally of course) and these guys are just standing there with their arms crossed watching. So, the cops tell me that I seemed like a nice person so they were going to go ahead and let me go.

I swear to this day, those tow truck guys (the ones who I were scared of at first) were the only thing that saved me from whatever those cops (the ones that I should have been able to trust) had planned. I go on to get to San Antonio and tell my parents everything that happened and they tell me that there has recently been a big stink about police up near where I had my incident shaking down people for bribes.

I was so shook up by this incident that I was afraid to drive back to Kansas so I called the Kansas Highway Patrol and told them what happened. They ran both my VIN and my tags and said they were fine. They also said that the guys in Texas would have had access to the same information and it should not have happened. They ended up taking a report over it, but there wasn't much that could be done because I wasn't even sure what agency was responsible, i.e., city, county, state, highway patrol, etc.
