Sensory deprivation tank experiences?
Hey, GLP, I just found out a spa in my town has gotten a sensory deprivation tank.

I've never gone in one before. It's kind of expensive, but I could afford to try it out.

Does anyone have any experiences with these? I've heard a lot of cool stories about them. Not as thought-provoking as tripping, but people seem to indicate these things are neat for entering really meditative states.

Yeah I live in a dinky town in the middle of nowhere. I was pretty surprised to hear that we now have one.

I might wait a bit before I set up an appointment. Think they're currently undergoing renovation/expansion.

Been there once, definitely would recommend a try out.

Meditative state? Being freed from a vast amount of "normal" sensory data does produce an altered state...it also leaves you dependent/trapped/faced with internal data. Are your mind and body a mess? Do you really want to face your internal demands?

I actually tried it and began hallucinating that I was the terminator and I experienced this scene thru the eyes of the terminator.

CIA uses SD tanks to crack people. Turns them psychotic after a prolonged period.

I'd like to think I'm in a stable enough frame of mind to try it.

I built 2 float tanks around 1984. I used them (and let people use them) for about 4 years. If you meditate, then meditate in your session and you will get to a higher level of mediation. If not, just learn to relax. You will likely feel less tension, ie, relaxed then you have ever felt.

You can do many interesting things in a float tank. Out of body, and lucid dreaming is very common, it just that you have to first get comfortable doing tank sessions and experiment. That's why one or two sessions are usually only warm up or practice sessions. But go for it.

The trick to relaxing is not to attempt to hold up you head. It will float. If you try to hold up your head by habit, you will have a hard time getting the full relaxation value.

I would ask if they fully disinfect the tank after each use.

I always wanted to get a BJ after an hour in a sensory deprivation tank! :D

Re: Sensory deprivation tank experiences?
Very therapeutic. I always feel refreshed and more at ease after an hour session. I've floated in a few different states (Cali, MI, OH). I just let my mind go wherever it wants to go while floating. There have been a few times where I lose track of where I am and I have to feel for the door.

Depending on what type of tank you get into, they usually have some sort of automatic filtration system. All facilities will tell you to shower before you get in and after you get out.

As of the last few times I've floated, I've noticed my back starts to hurt after 30 minutes, which takes away from the experience.

I highly recommend it to anyone.

Re: Sensory deprivation tank experiences?
I have a lot of experience with SD tanks... I have designed a few, built many, and have used them extensively. years ago, I ran a facility in Michigan that had 6 tanks for rent by the session, and have done exit interviews with thousands of people who were either newbies or regular users.

In short, go for it. Bad experiences are rare, and are normally experienced by people who shouldn't be contemplating their own navel, let alone the fringes of their subconscious.

At a minimum, it is very healthy, physically. Think of it as really high powered sleep, if that helps.

Typically, it is at least somewhat euphoric, with mild lucid dreams and hallucinations that are very pleasant.

At best, it is a full blown OBE with dashes of remote viewing thrown in. It can be somewhat addictive, because of the mental clarity and physical healing that can persist long after you leave the tank.

I would not recommend it for any sort of mental healing or recovery, but it is amazing for physical healing and recovery from injury or strain.

I miss it.

Cool: pain at peak intensity is around 220 volts. Will you run or process the signal? There will be pain... unless your some kind of freak of nature.

Re: Sensory deprivation tank experiences?
I've heard that if you're not claustrophobic, then you may discover that you are once you are within the tank

I imagine it'd be like that feeling you get right before you fall asleep, the dreamy thoughts before a dream. I imagine it as that, but constant once you've willed yourself and recognize that state of mind

Is it true they did a long term isolation experiment in a prison that resulted in the prison doctor committing suicide when he saw the results?

Wondering if OP ever tried it...
Life is a spiritual war and no matter where we lay our head, we live in a warzone.

There will be casualties.

You do get to choose your side. I chose the Bright Side where my God fights for me.

Others chose the Dark Side and fight for an entity that views them with disdain and discards them.
