Whiskey*Tango User ID: 62416357 United States 02/28/2015 07:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am down to GLP and email online. I have cut way back naturally so maybe I'm over it. But, the second I have a sick child or animal, or need to research a big purchase I need to make, I am so thankful to have it. I have a few people in my life "who don't need internet". These are the "can you go onlne and look something up for me" folks. I especially love the "can you pay my bill online for me". |

Still debating turning it off and pocketing the money I spend on it. Then I need to research something, buy something, or pay a bill. Really tired of the apparent majority of people that populate it, I was better off not knowing people really think the way some do. I don't click on very many threads here, I know how most of them will read before doing so. Got tired of all the hacks, viruses, and snooping years ago. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 62684562 United States 02/28/2015 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think to some extent the Internet has really harmed us in the sense that people think if they type something they've actually DONE something. People have the false impression that the internet equals some sort of real action. I've signed a million petitions that go NOWHERE, so that doesn't work. And giving an idea a hashtag on Twitter doesn't do anything but catch on for awhile and then it's gone. Of course the Internet does have it's benefits, like bringing together people who wouldn't otherwise have a place to vent or anyone to talk to. But that's my input. |

It seems to focus on a culture of death - millions of shows on real life murders, stalking etc. And movies showing me things I've never even known about before and wish I didn't. It's true..there are some things you just can't un-see. |

I do watch some tv news, just to see what the spin is, but it's really mostly just fluff and lies. |

I always wondered if you could reach a point, a burnout stage, where none of this shit any longer seemed interesting. The message boards that just go round and round and never solve anything, the endless stream of news that winds up meaning nothing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57665501 I think you reach a point when you've seen all you need to see to tell you what's what. After that, what point is there to all this? Just to reenforce what you already know? Eventually, you come to the point where you no longer even need that. I don't need to see anymore to tell me society is going right down the shitter. And that ni--ers, jews, queers, shitty commie/capitalists with their Chinese factories and subversive traitors of every stripe and their foul ideologies are responsible for it. I have a feeling I'll miss it after it's gone but I felt that way about TV once. Now I can't even make myself go back to watching that shit outside of one or two programs that interest me and a few old movies on TCM I've already seen 10 times. Somebody once described this crap as just an electronic pacifier to keep the troublemakers off the streets and out of trouble, and he was right. It has it's uses. We've seen a great awakening, of that there is no doubt. But like American Air Power, without the boots on the ground to turn enemy losses into real territorial gains for us, it's all for not. They'll just continue to rebuild and repair and figure out a way to make their shit stronger next time. It's time to go back to the real world I think. We are not getting anything real and concrete done here. Nope, I never get tired of it because I can't. It sends me my paychecks. Last Edited by TheExPatrioticGirl on 02/28/2015 07:50 PM It's all fun & games until the Dogman stands up Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit! What a ride!" In times of trouble, I ask myself, "What would Sarah Conner do?" |
OCD Chaos Theorist User ID: 62063713 United States 02/28/2015 07:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know, I remember when we first started hearing whispers of the 'the Internet' and thinking 'Wow, all of mans knowledge available for everyone'; and now it's just cats, and porn, and bullshit. I do enjoy listening to classical music. I recently discovered Rachmaninoff and that Brahms did much more than just a lullaby. I also discovered most of classic literature is available legal and free. I do watch a lot of Netflix and I'm sure I'll miss it for a while, but as you alluded in your first post, it's absence won't be tugging as hard over time. I wish I had more time so I could do even less. |

Wayfaring Stranger User ID: 64287373 Canada 02/28/2015 08:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | YES Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68433233 I've not watched TV for many years now. The internet is wearing on me the same way. The internet is a procrastination facilitator. I've been thinking about getting a free dial up account, and paying for a cheap land line, just for basics. And laying off it a bit. While that was good for you perhaps if this time it was limited to taking what your hear with a grain of salt and then do the in-depth investigation of the subjects that interest you and that keeps you in the loop and occupied without becoming a sheeple. |

Yes dropping TV was very good for me - I recommend it for anyone. And yes just refining what I read and do on the internet, cutting back on time spent on it....would be a good idea for sure. |
