Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67523651 [link to finance.yahoo.com] (Wikimedia Commons) A portrait of Franz Kafka in 1906. Novelist Franz Kafka needed to be alone when he worked. Really alone. "I need solitude for my writing," the "Metamorphosis" author said, but "not 'like a hermit' — that wouldn't be enough — but like a dead man." Kafka, often held up as the lonely, tortured artist, wasn't alone in his need for solitude. Maya Angelou checked herself into hotel rooms to get work done; "Freedom" author Jonathan Franzen stuffs his ears and blindfold his eyes to bang out a manuscript. this should tell you something Solitude is necessary if you are working on something which is complex and requires the utmost concentration. "One person with courage is a majority." - Thomas Jefferson "You’ve heard that we are what we eat. But we also are what we think". “Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views." -William F. Buckley Jr. |

Quoting: WhiteAngel My son also can't relate to people that aren't intelligent. He'd rather be alone. I crave alone time, but I can also be very social. Agree that it's a waste of time to be around fools. Last Edited by Dazey on 03/05/2015 11:45 PM |
The Årtist User ID: 44124412 United States 03/05/2015 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I work I have to be alone in some form.. usually work in dead silence as well. My brain is all over the place working through my ideas. I can't process what I'm doing creatively with someone talking.. or even around me. I'm not claiming to be a "genius" of any sort but I can relate to needing to be left the eff alone. RAGE |
