Unemployment Report!! +295,000!!

I work as an employment specialist for seniors. Several sectors are having trouble keeping people so they are being forced to offer higher pay. The State of Washington is raising the minimum wage to 12 dollars a n hour (stepping up over 3 years).
Most of this is minimum wage job growth in my region.
Still it looks nice on paper, but our economy will need to drop another 1% of unemployment for us to rock and roll.

you realize of course that the 37.8% includes children, retired, homemakers, disabled, elderly and anyone else who cannot work. boomers will boost that a lot over the next several years. in addition, there are of course the people who are no longer looking for work for whatever reason, but that is not a major fraction of non-participation.

Up 23% since last summers lows! This has been a very long multi year basing pattern and this mofo is going to the moon!

And this after four weeks of terrible Weekly Jobless Claims reports...and a labor participation rate that only includes about 60% of working age Americans...

Is it just me, or are all of these "Seasonally" adjusted numbers pure unadulterated bullshit now-a-days?!?!?

yea i've always thought, just as they say it's "darkest right before the dawn", i think the opposite is also true.

So here we are with DOW at record highs, unemployment at 5.5% (albeit quite manipulated), the USDX at 97+ (up over 1%/$1 just today!) and going to 100...what's not to love?

I just got laid off last week. This can't be good.

They're scared the Fed will raise interest rate if the job market looks good...but of course the Job Market should look a helluva lot better than it does with only 63% of working age Americans actually working...

This is how the government gets their "jobs" data. It is the definition of bullshit. Arguing over what the real unemployment rate is does not make any sense because no mechanism exists to poll the entire legal and illegal population of the united states.

The BLS jobs report is the product of a pair of surveys, one of more than 410,000 business establishments called Current Employment Statistics, and one called the Current Population Survey, which questions 60,000 householders each month. Here is the BLS's explanation of its methodology. The establishment survey determines how many new jobs were added. It is always calculated on a seasonally adjusted basis determined by a frequently tweaked formula.

The BLS report only provides a snapshot of what's happening at a single point in time.
It's important to understand that the jobs-created-last-month-numbers that it reports are not "real." Not because of a conspiracy, but because statisticians apply formulas to the raw data, estimate the number of jobs created by the "birth" and "death" of businesses, and use other filters to fine-tune the numbers. And, always good to remember, in the fine print, they tell us, with a 90 percent confidence level, that the actual number of newly created jobs reported each falls within a plus or minus 90,000 range.

Minimum wage job growth does not sell homes. One of biggest forces in our economy. We will muddle along for quite a bit longer. The market numbers such as DOW do not reflect the situation in the streets.

I'm just north of DC. I used to see the regular beggars daily. Last year, I'm seeing new ones daily...I'm seeing people in really cold weather down here. It's so sad.

Whatever number they give are bogus. Anyone with half a brain can look in the few help wanted there are and see that most are part-time!

Cut the non parties ting of age workers in half, your still @ 18% or better. We will recover at some point. Wages will be lower and taxes will be higher. Just like Europe and else where most will rent. Most will work just to get bye.

More homes are selling due to once again relaxing the lending requirements for home loans. You can extrapolate whatever you want from any of these reports coming out. The truth is that the fundamentals are not yet sound.

Total crap, and total fraud! Businesses continue to close where I live on a regular basis. Of course this administration has always been entitled to it's own fabricated facts!!

Anybody catch yesterday's CNBC interview with Mark Cuban? He thinks the current "TECH" bubble is far worse than 2007/2008.
