I have several advanced degrees in psychology, and I know what real research is, and how that differs from an essay, or fiction.

It's not possible to research topics that have little or no proof to them. For instance, a friend of mine wanted to do he thesis on passive-aggressive clients, but failed to do so. She was quite disappointed, then I pointed out that passive-aggression is really another word for "liar" and you can't get data from liars.

However, you can invent theories about liars and secret societies, and so forth. That's fine as long as you say what that's what you're doing. Meanwhile, an essay is just your opinion and doesn't even have to be based on observation, and finally fiction is something that you set out to make up, and a knowing invention.

I have to tell you that I'm concerned about the internet. I'm 40, and was on the net really before it was a net. For those of you that don't know, you had to call a site by phone to connect to it. So, I'm seen the internet from start to its current state.

In the beginning there were lots of bright good-natured people on the web, so if you got into a discussion it was likely to be pretty good. Now, the net seems filled with lots of poorly thought out crap and BS.

I attribute this to the fact that many people set themselves up as jounralists, but have none of the ethics and must answer to no one. It's a return to the days of yellow journalism, when news papers first came out.

Problems:

1. Someone, or some government agency, will attempt to regulate the net, as all the nonsense affects politics and public morale. See what I said about the beginning of news papers, if you don't believe me.

2. Innocent people, both young and old, can get caught up in the nonsense and that can affect mental and financial health.

3. There are REAL problems in the old that would be better focused on.

example: today on the news I saw a story about working families that could not afford healthcare for their kids or maybe only one kid out of two. That's a real problem.

Question:

Why are some many people focused on space alien flight technology when we have actual verifiable problems going on.
