The thermometer topped out at 98 degrees in Anaheim Saturday, and firefighters worked to quell several small wildfires that sprang up across the region. But it wasn't all bad news, as the early-season heat wave was the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy some time at the beaches. Along Los Angeles County beaches, lifeguards staffed up for crowds as big as they normally see in June, according to a separate AP report.
