Stamford Police arrested a third suspect on Wednesday — a 15-year-old Stamford boy — in connection with the stabbing death of a Stamford man outside the McDonald’s restaurant a week ago.

And in a related development in the case, officials announced that the case against the 15-year-old Stamford boy arrested earlier this week was transferred from the Juvenile Matters Division in state Superior Court in Stamford to been upgraded to the Part A division which deals with the most serious offenses.

Stamford Police said, “At this point the juvenile is being identified as Marquest Hall, of 21 Sherman St., Stamford. A $2,000,000 bond was issued by the judge and he will next be seen on March 31, 2015 at Stamford Superior Court.” Lt. Diedrich Hohn said that prosecutors will not allow the release of a mug shot of Hall and “We are not releasing any video since the video is going to be used in a criminal prosecution.” Police used the video and information from the community to identify the suspects.

Described as 'tragic'?????

Either the cop failed basic English class or he thinks you can stab someone in the heart by accident or mistake.

Something being tragic does not mean it was an accident. It pretty much means sad.

All of us who know better need to help teach the youths about spirituality and a young age so most will not commit such cruel acts.

Thing need to change in preschools/kindergarten if values are not taught at home.

Lawyer says 15-year-old intended to go play video games, arrest warrant shows a young person waving a knife

STAMFORD -- The youngest murder defendant in the city's living memory appeared small and young standing before the judge in a prison jumpsuit meant for a far larger person at his second court appearance Tuesday.

At 5-foot-4 and 140 lbs., Marquest Hall, 15, fairly swam in the bright yellow garment. Despite his young age, he sported a mustache and goatee.

"Marquest is a child," his aunt, Darlene Lamar, said outside state Superior Court in Stamford after the proceedings Tuesday. "He's funny. He's a kid. He's artistic."

He's also accused of fatally stabbing 52-year-old Antonio Muralles after they accidentally bumped into one another outside the McDonald's on Bedford Street on March 10.

The witness, who was not identified by gender, said that moments before the stabbing they saw Hall take out a folding knife and begin waving it around, according to the affidavit. Hall and the group of people he was standing with out in front of McDonald's on the Bedford Street side of the fast food restaurant then began to rap, saying "Who's gonna be the first n----- to get poked up," the arrest affidavit said.


Another witness, who was unable to identify any of the suspects' faces because he or she was concentrating solely on the actions going on, told police he or she saw a black male pull a knife out of a right pants pocket and flick it open. The person with the knife then spat in Muralles' face and asked him, "Do you want to die now?" the witness told police, according to the affidavit.

The city’s youngest murder defendant in living memory made his second appearance at state Superior Court in Stamford Tuesday morning where his attorney asked for a continuance to work out their legal strategy.

Because of the severity of the crime Hall, a juvenile, had his case moved to the adult docket at his first arraignment at state Superior Court on March 17. He will appear Tuesday in a fourth-floor courtroom where his case is to be placed on the courthouse’s Part A docket where the most serious cases in the area are adjudicated.

Witnesses told police that McLamb and Hall were hanging out in front of McDonalds spoiling for a fight when the Guatemalan immigrant inadvertently ran into Hall as he was walking out of the fast-foot restaurant. Witnesses said the teen began poking the older man with a stick before flicking open a pocket knife and asking the factory worker “Do you want to die now?”

Hall and McLamb then set upon Muralles, with McLamb punching him and Hall stabbing him, police said. Once Muralles fell to the ground, the two kept up the attack. After being stabbed several times in the torso and once in the chest in a period of about 10 seconds –one knife thrust went through the older man’s breast plate tearing an inch-long gash in one of the ventricles of his heart- Muralles got up and staggered to the corner of Bedford and Broad streets, where he collapsed. After emergency surgery to repair his heavily damaged heart, Muralles died at Stamford Hospital several hours later.

Before a plea can be made in the case, McLamb and his Public Defender Howard Ehring will have to decide whether they want to have a hearing in probable cause. The hearing, a mini trial on the police’s evidence against him, would call witnesses to the stand for a judge to determine if police had enough evidence to obtain a warrant charging McLamb with Muralles’ murder.

McLamb's public defender, Howard Ehring, said he wants a little more time to look at the state's evidence before deciding his next move. Pleas in the case cannot be made until the two decide whether to have a hearing on probable cause. The hearing involves calling witnesses to the stand for a judge to determine if police had enough evidence to obtain a warrant charging McLamb with Muralles' murder.

"Obviously, there was a murder warrant that was signed by a judge. There are some witnesses and the burden that the state has is very low in terms of proceeding with the allegations at this point. So I will talk to the state's attorney and talk with my client and see what the videos show," Ehring said.
