The Horstman is a very specialized type of boat (as are trimarans) that attract a very very small market for purchase. I am surprised he got that much for it. Production boats always seem to hold their value because they are a known-quantity. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 17324866 Panama 03/21/2015 04:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We didn't really pick Panama (Bocas del Toro), but the boat was there when we bought it. I went down to look at it and fell in love with the area. Close to everything. Easy sail to the Caribbean and S. America, easy transit through the canal for the Pacific. Quoting: Captain Dan Bocas del Toro area is an archipelago of hundreds of islands. Absolutely beautiful! Awesome surfing and nature preserves. Reminds me of what Key West must have been like about 40 yrs ago. Panama has a stable government, low cost of living. Slip fee is only $600/mo for our size boat. Good medical care in Panama City (about an hour plane ride away). Easy residency requirements. All true. Panama is an excellent choice. It's what we chose too. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 175495 United States 03/21/2015 04:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually, she had 4 at the time she was working doing charity work with orphans in Central America (something she and the kids are passionate about!). She fell in love with a little 2 yr old boy that was found in a park abandoned with cigarette burns and bruises all over his body. She and her then-husband adopted him. A month later, she found out she was pregnant with twins! She went from 4 to 7 kids within a year! I'm sorry because I didn't mean to pry. Its just that very fertile women frighten me because I'm convinced they'll clean me out with child support. I've been so careful in my life and have always worn a condom for fear of pregnancy. Hats off to you Captain Dan for the ability to overlook the fear. I would have bought the boat to escape the 11 kids. Sad, but true. I'm going to get a vasectomy this year and never tell my girlfriend I shoot blanks. |

Quoting: Captain Dan It is a Leopard 46 catamaran and has room to sleep 10 with 5 heads and all the free sailing fuel we will need! We are tired of it here and are ready to bug out! We will be spending the next couple of months adding the things we will need ie. solar/wind power etc. You can follow our progress on our blog: [link to adventuresofatribe.wordpress.com] Well stay safe, glad you're leaving before the hurricane season. so what makes you pick Panama? Don't the Chinese own that now? No, the Chinese do not own Panama or the Panama Canal. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68561383 Spain 03/21/2015 04:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Congrats on the boat purchase. They sail well. It is a great set up for a family. I lived aboard a leopard46 cat for 4+ years, I know them well... so if you need any technical advice feel free to message me, I can do my best. That said, I didn't know they did a 5 berth option... ours was 4 cabins with heads... we never used the bunks up in the bow (except for storage)... is that your layout too? Don't know much about Panama, but I have friends in the industry that are sailing that area, so you never know, if you need any help there, I may be able to help too. Have fun, stay safe. Fair winds, and following seas. |

But don't mess around and get "Harbor fever"..:o) I lived on a 51 Morgan for a while in St Thomas and so many people were living there at Red Hook, out on the hook. They spent the last 5 years living on the big island of HI. So they love the tropical weather and ocean. Uhm, how will you educate them? There are some very good English-speaking and bilingual schools here. |
