jennilicious User ID: 742097 United States 03/23/2015 03:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: New Jersey has fourth highest number of hate groups in country, says Southern Poverty Law Center The thing about New Jersey is the way it's a patchwork of these tiny towns that vary wildly from each other. "The other side of the tracks" is like an entirely different planet in most cases. It's the difference between East Orange and South Orange, the difference between Livingston and Short Hills, the difference between Bridgeton and Upper Deerfield, etc. There are 660 school districts in a state with 606 municipalities, or at least those were the numbers several years ago but it's something like that. That means that there is an average of 1+ school district per municipality. People from other states may be scratching their heads over that one, but we in NJ all know why it is the way it is ... the schools and the corresponding property tax rates are how each little town "keeps the riff raff out". If you were to take any 50 or 100 square mile area at random in most of the state, it would be full of little communities that are as different from each other as one can imagine. It's what makes New Jersey so great, and it's also what makes it so crappy ... there's definitely something for everyone. Idk about those places, but Burlington county (south jersey!!!) still has some beautiful farms and farmland and parts of the jersey shore are really nice, but not saying where bc they don't need more traffic, esp. the bad kind. Homo marriage is allowed in NJ though, so I wld never move there permanently...and hasn't it turned into some 3rd worlder haven?. Plus gun laws are really restrictive and punitive for legal owners from what I hv heard. |

Plus gun laws are really restrictive and punitive for legal owners from what I hv heard. Cumberland County, where I live, is still very rural, as well. There are lots of very nice places all over the state. I'm not into guns, so I'm not sure ... I hear people from other states say that, but I also know a lot of people here who belong to gun clubs and such. There's no carrying - I know that. It's almost impossible to get a permit. As far as being a third worlder haven ... well, NJ has always been that ... It's an immigrant hub. One of the reasons I love it here is all of the people from all over the world. I grew up with kids whose parents were from nearly every country you could think of ... I went to catholic school and in a class of like 30 kids we had parents who spoke Italian, Greek, Spanish, Polish, Ukranian ... we had a Sikh kid and a Jewish kid, a Jamaican kid ... and that's just in one elementary school class, lol ... I LIKE it that NJ is full of immigrants and always has been. Growing up the Irish hated the Italians, the Italians hated the Puerto Ricans ... right on down the line. Then their kids all married each other and had babies, lol. The food here is better than anywhere else I've ever been, too. Quoting: Hawk-02 That's Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), talking about New Jersey. The SPLC has just published its 2014 list of active hate groups in the United States -- 784 in total. Potok wrote about them in the nonprofit's Intelligence Report publication. New Jersey has the fourth highest number of active hate groups in the country, according to the SPLC's list. With 40 such groups, N.J. takes a backseat only to California, Florida and New York on the list of bigotry and intolerance. New Jersey's high ranking comes partly thanks to the 22 racist skinhead groups the SPLC says are active in the state. However, according to the list, the New Jersey also harbors one Ku Klux Klan chapter, seven neo-Nazi groups, one white nationalist society, eight black nationalist organizations and one record label that specializes in white-supremacist music. "New Jersey has had a fairly high number of hate group for quite a number of years," said Potok in an interview on Friday. "The skinhead problems in New Jersey are something that's been happening over the past 10 years. "Particularly with the AC Skins, around Atlantic City, you see a lot of chapters in places like racially homogonous suburbs that bump up against cities that are more diverse." [link to www.nj.com] That's because there is no discrimination in New Jersey, those people hate everyone. |
