This is not totally accurate... There is still a lot of open wilderness.

Fly over the US at 30,000 feet and look out the window.
Puhlenty of room for wild life.
We just take over the best spots while they are still hanging around. Sometimes they eat stuff.

Deer and mountain lions, et al have nowhere to go anymore as "developers" continue to pour concrete and build yet another fucking Dunkin Donuts, McMansions or McCondos etc etc.

It makes me sick to death.

Re: Lion attack in the backyard
now that's a little disturbing, its bad enough that the coyotes and foxes eat our kitties and chickens, but they know better than to wander around at night ... and the only thing dumber than a deer is a rabbit ... which I am glad there is plenty of, to keep the predators out of my yard.

Had a cougar go right past my kitchen window about 2Am a week or so ago. The porch light was on and I know well what a cougar looks like.

We live in the country in North Florida.

Re: Lion attack in the backyard
I was walking alone two years ago on a bike path in California and saw a Mountain Lion crouched and slithering into bushes about 20 feet away, and did my best impersonation of Big Foot with my arms up and lunged toward it and it flat out bolted off at about 40mph away from me.

Do not run from these big cats. Make yourself as big as you can, arms out and up and yell like a raped ape zombie on PCP and scare them away! ...otherwise.. you could be lunch.

There's a white bobtail cat out here in the sticks.

I thought it was a big dog the first time it crossed the road at night. Then I realized it's paws and tail were different. It's about 2.5 feet tall at the shoulder, a small lion really.

Predators needs lots of food.

A male cheetah can eat 14 kg meat in one sitting.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
