Since when?

Anyway, read the 1st chapter of Genesis, and tell me where it even hints that Adam was the boss of Eve.

But better yet: follow the examples of Jesus and Paul in laying down any privileges you think God gave you. Read Phil. 2:5-11, or any of the Gospel accounts of the Last Supper, or any of the places where Paul gave up his rights as a hand-picked apostle. The clear will of God is for those with privilege to lay it down, humble themselves, and lift up others instead. None of the fruit of the Spirit include control, authority, or assertiveness. As Paul said in 1 Cor. 13, love does not demand its own way.

Re: The Christian Bible Forbids Woman To Speak In Church
1 Corinthians 14:34 - King James Bible
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68225391

As a Christian male, i've read the bible, and think it means, God made men to be the teacher. In a church setting, this would mean, that the preacher would be male.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66692887

Aside from asking you to read through the thread, let me ask you this:

Do you honestly believe that God cares more about the vessel through whom his teachings are presented, than the teachings themselves? Does the Holy Spirit really "check under the hood" before giving out spiritual gifts? Is God now "a respecter of persons" who no longer "judges by the heart"?

If so, then this means God has made women intrinsically inferior in being and essence, since no amount of ability or spiritual maturity is taken into account, but only gender.

Also, Jesus said that "where two or three gather in my name, there I am among them". This is "a church setting". There is no such thing as the traditional "church" in the pages of the NT.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20545539

I'm not a biblical scholar. I know that women are suppose to submit to their husbands and husbands are suppose to love their wives like they love God. So my interpretation, is that, in a "church setting", men are to be the teachers and women are to be the listeners.

Yep, i agree its just a meeting of people. I do not see this as women being less spiritual in anyway. Women are feminine in spirit and men are male in spirit. I dont think femininity is any less spiritual than a male if that's the question. God is the head of the church, men are the head of the household, women are the weaker vessel that are feminine. I'm not exactly sure what that scripture exactly mean't. But i do understand that men are suppose to love their wives like they love God and if they do anything different they are breaking their vows in marriage before God.

I would think the verse means men are suppose to be the teachers as they are the head of the household and are the head of the church meeting.

I think the verse is important, but, honestly, i've read the entire bible and the way husbands and wives are suppose to be married under God. So, i would assume if that's what that quote means.

Re: The Christian Bible Forbids Woman To Speak In Church
Paul says that instead of speaking, women should be in submission. This implies that the Corinthian women were speaking in an insubordinate way. The fact that Paul said in chapter 11 that women could pray and prophesy, and in chapter 14 that two or three people could prophesy in a worship service, shows that women are allowed to have a slot in the speaking schedule. It is not insubordinate for them to speak prophecies; it is therefore likely that Paul is prohibiting some less-formal speaking, such as chatter or comments from the audience.

Now you POS how about critiquing the quran on how they believe cattle, er women should be treated.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65468146

"A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint."
1st Timothy 2:11-15
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68701068

And so it is today. Women are totally deceived and rebellious to God's authority, let alone man's authority. They absolutely DETEST God's hierarchy. The scriptures say that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.

Just a note to all you "lovely" ladies out there. God WILL have the last word, even if it totally flies in the face of your feminazi communist programming.

Like it, or not. Have it your way, fools, and go down swinging.

You must be new to this thread. This has been explained already. But since nobody ever wants to go back and read, here's a commentary on the whole book of 1 Tim. It is vital to know the background of the letter, and the fact that Paul uses two "hapax legomena" in that passage. (If you don't know what that means, or which Greek words it refers to, then I'll provide links.)

[link to bible.fether.net]

And even if you choose not to read that, ask yourself whether Paul is really saying women can only be saved by having sex and giving birth. Because if that isn't what Paul is saying, then you have conceded that the "plain reading" of the passage is not as plain as many wish it to be.

You really should do more than paste scripture. Everybody thinks that the "plain reading" settles every argument, but as I showed re. women saved by childbearing, that cannot be true.

It is 'therefore likely'?!?

We have a biblical scholar on our hands, folks.

I do believe OP's point is that women are repeatedly subjugated and referenced as lessor and inferior in the misogynistic bible.

The quran is also a hateful piece of shit.

You really think you deserve some kind of bonus points because your beliefs are slightly less evil than the next dude's??
 Quoting: Whore of Babylon

CONTEXT is everything. IF you knew anything about the Bible in context, you would not call it misogynistic, at least the NT. Yeah, I've studied it more than you have, guaranteed. Here are links to some of my material to prove it:

[link to bible.fether.net]
[link to books.fether.net]
[link to bible.fether.net]

Now when you can prove you've done at least that much study and research, you might have a right to critique the Bible and Christianity. Until then, you're just another ignorant hater. The work I've done at least makes me a better judge of whose beliefs line up with scripture.

I've seen some of your other attacks on the Bible and Christianity. You need to find something better to do with your time than clicking on topics you know nothing about and can only flame and bash.

To say you're not a Biblical scholar, but that you "know" what the Bible teaches, is the kind of irrationality that makes any attempt at discussion futile.

You said "I think" a lot in your comment. You can believe whatever you want, and you don't appear interested in digging deeper. So again, I ask you to "think" about how male privilege can possibly not violate the teachings of Jesus and Paul about humility, mutual submission, and laying privilege down.

By the way, men are never called "head of the household" in any part of the New Testament. But there is one spot where the Greek calls the wife the "ruler of the house". I can get the reference if you like, and show you the Greek words.

Re: The Christian Bible Forbids Woman To Speak In Church
Im guessing our gender means nothing to a supreme being. Its not our words, but the complexity of our souls that is interpreted. When we die, we wont have a gender. The human condition keeps us dumbed down for a reason regardless of what gender you are. The bible may been inspired by great things , but was written by humans, as were all religions. I think most feel differences between the dark and the light and religion is just a way to articulate soulfulness. The bigger question, regardless of how you identify yourself, is what part of your soul are you loyal to? The dark side, the light? Do you know the difference? Its not slways clear to me based on how a person identifies themselves. That much i do know.

Respectfully, you don't understand - this is why:

2Ti 4:2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
2Ti 4:3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
2Ti 4:4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

I've read the bible and understand how women are suppose to treat their husbands..in submission and that men are suppose to treat their wives like they would treat God, in submission, but men are created to be men, and women are created to be women and feminine.

"the head of every man is Christ"
"the head of every women is her husband"
"the head of Chris is God"

Priviledge is a word about status. This isn't about status. Humility is loving the weaker vessel like you love God. You are the stronger person. You are suppose to treat your wife with love. It makes sense to me. God treats us with love and he could destroy us without blinking an eye. The same for men, yet, God commands us to treat women, like a God, as humble, and loving as possible.

The bible makes it clear that the husband is to be the leader so to speak and that women are suppose to submit to their husbands. It has nothing to do with control. It has to do with love. If a man doesn't love his wife, then he doesn't love God. He is the leader.

You're making this into a much bigger deal than it is. If anything, its telling both men and women there are bigger consquences and bigger things then themselves.

As for the exact quote, again, I would assume that it means men are suppose to be the teachers in a church setting. As this is the way men were created and women were created.

You are a bit right. The bible holds a man and a woman as an archetype of human's relationship with God. When a human cheats on God it is idolatry and when a woman cheats on a man it is adultery.

The bible also says that in our eternal roles, we are all equal just as the angels do not have sexes and procreate, we will be.

Our role on earth as a man, woman, begger or governor is only for a while and we should not despise those in different roles than us or compare ourselves against them. We should be grateful for who God made us and give thanks in all things.

As for men being superior, having higher authority over the house is not the same as being superior. Men are also called to put a woman before himself and sacrifice himself as needed for her benefit.

It doesn't really matter what the role is, they all teach humility, obedience and honor for God if you don't despise and rebel. Most people who rebel will simply use your points as a type of justification or rationalization for their bad behavior.

Someone always has more than you in this life and someone will always have less than you in this life. Your appointed place is not a curse if you honor God for what he has given you.

Re: The Christian Bible Forbids Woman To Speak In Church
I tend to think this is true, my mom died young and I wanted to speak at her funeral. The asshole priest actually denied my request. I never forgot that and it really bothered me. Who was HE to say I couldn't speak at my own mothers funeral? Mentally I was a mess and didn't stand up to him but really, I wish I'd have told him to fuck off and spoke anyways.

"Religion" abused you...not Christianity
 Quoting: jdb

It sounds like you are angry over a Christian experience or an experience with other Christians. That's never a good thing. So, you might as well get over it. Its part of the testing we go through.

Umm...no...you TOTALLY misunderstood my point!

I am opposed to religion except as is out lined here:

Jas 1:27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Religion is unnecessary - all one needs is a *relationship* with Jesus!

Relax! Seems like you're projecting whatever is making you uptight on others!

Re: The Christian Bible Forbids Woman To Speak In Church
Is cultural, men on one side women on the other. When the husbands would prophecy, the wives would yell, "hey honey what food that mean"

So the verse tells women to ask husbands the scripture meaning at home, not in church
