Re: What was 1982 like?
Harleys weren’t everywhere and were very expensive at least to me.

I bought a bike I literally got in baskets for 200 dollars; stripped off all the trash, trued up the wheels, replaced everything that could wear. Did everything short of tearing down the engine. Went with straight bars, good tires, better suspension, clutch, etc. Tons and tons of elbow grease to make all the aluminum and chrome shine. It was fun to do.

I rocked back then and was very young.

This was me in 1982.

Same as it is today but with less sophisticated technology. Your electronic devices were considerably larger and used different mediums than today. No internet like it is today. Food, fuel, entertainment were less expensive than now. President Carter's economic policies wrecked havoc with economy and employment. Was a good time to be in the military, just minor skirmishes.

Astral, great job on a great thread! Since you are a full GLP memeber, can you tweak the title to add the full 4 year effect of the 80's? "What Was 1982-1986 like?"

I enjoyed an '83 music thread recently, but then remembered '84 and asked myself, 'why are we stuck in a box?'.

The early 80's was about a 4 year era.... (then all the chicks got pregnant.. yadayadayada...) Those 4 years were the time-span that absorbed the tax rate cuts of the 80's, expansion of the U.S. economy, and also the cultural backlash of the military cold-war spending that caused European music to rebel. ...The result of all these cultures shocking themselves together was a damned good time.

If you can change the title by just adding 82-86, you are not just a goat; you are ASTRAL! We can then add the entire catalog of the early 80's culture and take this thread into infinity.

Astral Goat, after thinking about this, I have too much respect for you than to stress you out by demanding to expand this thread. So, I created another thread, with all due respect to you and the bitchin thread you have here:

The 80's 1982-1986 Music - What was playing on your Car Stereo?

Re: What was 1982 like?
Evita had debuted on Broadway just 2 years earlier and ruled!
Prince's 1999 cd was classic.
Frasier Smith was on am drive time in LA on KMET and was "too hip!" Funnier than hell!
AIDS was just emerging.
I was newly wed and anything was possible.
