The police have made some arrests. But as I said it's an ongoing problem. Very sad because religious places did not used to have to lock up with heavy security -- people took it as a basic rule of morality that you simply do NOT steal from treasures and shrines. |

Well there is a lot of art in British museums from the colonial era, same deal. U.S. too. Should the UK start giving back all the things it stole from Asia and Africa in the British Empire? Korea and Japan already dealt with this on a legal level in 1965. A treaty was signed. Money was paid. Some war loot was returned. That's not the same as some random tourist walking into a temple and stealing a gold statute of the Buddha. |
