Agreed, I encountered one of these before, came right up to me by the shore line on a brackish river. They are actually friendly animals, saw this one swim around with a kid in the river and even pull the kid around in the water while the kid held onto his back. Smart and friendly...like a dog.

Just don't catch them in your fish nets.

Smacked one HARD with all my strength bout that size over the head with a paddle on the flat side when I was collecting mussels on a reef, watched its eyes spin around for about 1 second,damn thing still came at me, so I turned the paddle sideways and hit it over the bridge of its eyes. Popped one eyeball, and proceeded to paddle that thing till the paddle broke while yelling at the top of my lungs covered in blood. It was me or it primal instinct!.....

While snorkeling in Galapagos I encountered 2 sea lions fighting in the water. Scared the hell out of me! I was ready to get out and the guide explained to me they were mating.

I think the dog is what agitated that Sea Lion more than anything else. It didn't become aggressive until that dog went after it.

I live on the Oregon coast and see Sea Lions all the time. They like to follow you when you are walking down the beach. They will keep popping up and watching you, a little ways offshore, when the surf is flat. As you move down the beach, they move with you.

I snorkeled with sea lions in the sea of Cortez in college. Probably a stupid idea, but it is one of the highlights of my life.

Their power and grace in the water is incredible. I watched them charge me straight up from 15 feet under, only to bark and turn out of the way as air bubbles popped on my chest.

Awesome experience.

There was an attack here the other day in my town. A guy was grabbed by the arm, taken under water and held for about 20 seconds. He had been posing with a fish for a picture on a boat, so naturally....
