Swiss banker arrested for role in Greek bribery scandals
That's the reason - my personal view - they don't want SYRIZA in the game. They want the party to go on!

April 8th

Jean-Claude Oswald was arrested in a transit area of Abu Dhabi under a European arrest warrant on charges of money laundering.

Jean-Claude Oswald, a banker thought to have played a key role in the Siemens scandal and in bribery scandals related to Greek weapons procurement programs has been arrested and arraigned before a Greek prosecutor, according to To Vima.

Oswald was tracked down in Abu Dhabi and was arrested on a European arrest warrant issued by the prosecutor responsible for extraditions, Yiannis Angelis. The banker is accused of have laundered hundreds of millions of euros of money from illegal bribes.

According to reporting by To Vima newspaper, Oswald’s extradition had also previously been requested by the magistrate Nikos Tsipronis. He also stands accused for his alleged role in the Siemens scandal in the most recent judicial report issued by a three member appellate court.

Oswald, a French national, was based in Switzerland where the authorities had previously denied the Greek extradition requests. However the prosecutor Angelis, in coordination with other justice officials, managed to arrest him in a transit area in Abu Dhabi.

Oswald was transported to Greece and is being held in the General Police HQ in Athens. Over the coming days he will be called to testify before the magistrate Mr Tsironis over his role in the arms bribery scandal which saw Defense Ministry officials paid millions in bribes by chiefly European and Russian arms companies in return for lucrative weapons contracts.

Magistrates are hoping that Oswald will provide useful information in his testimony as he is believed to know the names and addresses of Greek officials involved in the scandal.

Jean-Claude Oswald is thought to have played a key role in laundering the illicit cash payments through the Dresden Bank and a network of offshore companies in coordination with the Greek banker Fanis Lyginos who is also wanted by the Greek authorities.
