SilverPatriot User ID: 39491380 United States 04/13/2015 08:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If people do not understand just how much google is sniffing their collective backsides then download and use something like CurrPorts, or Port Explorer to monitor website connections to your computer and note how many times google, facebook, paypal and other data collection websites connect to your secure 443 port without a valid reason. Quoting: SilverPatriot Further, you might be interested in what programs installed on your computer connect to the internet without your knowledge or consent. Is it normal for an attempted download of port explorer to register as malware by avast? would currports be better then? Not if DiamondCS made the Port Explorer program, you viewed unless of course it is a false positive report from Avast. You might want to look around as DiamondCS appears to no longer have a website but you can still purchase the program, I never mentioned the program eStop because the company no longer supports the program. |

ILiveWithTrees (OP) User ID: 64431236 Canada 04/13/2015 11:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's amazing how many connections are trying to be made from my devices. Webpages to different domains, processes running trying to call all over the world... there's a thousand ways they are trying to find out more and more about me. Quoting: ILiveWithTrees I Love Little Snitch. I don't do very much to plug these holes other than simply block 3rd party connections and not use these services period. keep it simple. how do you do that? Little Snitch |

Relentless attempts to call home, especially by google. Background processes threaded to call home many times daily, let alone having a browser open. Chrome want's to make all kinds of calls that have no link to open tabs I have open. I even have netbios threads trying to call China, Taiwan... Time for a clean install. I use an old paid version of Opera version 9.27 of course this is good for many websites plus it alerts me to SSL Port 443 connects for newer websites I use the work in progress web browser Otter “Otter Browser aims to recreate the best aspects of the classic Opera (12.x) UI using Qt5.” Granted a trusted firewall is needed and a program to sandbox your internet connections for added safety and whatever programs that call home need to be blocked by the firewall until updating ie virus and spyware detection programs as many as not so benign. I am under no delusion I cannot obscure all of my browsing in spite of frequent dumping of my history and a sandbox eliminates the accumulation of browsing history in all browsers thus facebook, google, twitter, paypal and note I do not have a facebook or twitter account. Nevertheless, what these butt snuffers glean comes at a cost to themselves and my data is incomplete or inaccurate. Otter Browser [link to otter-browser.org] thanks for the link |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15774107 Watch. People will start going off the grid for real. No credit cards. No online profile. No smartphones. I'm also trying to dial my presence back. It is tough though, some things are so convenient. |

ILiveWithTrees (OP) User ID: 64431236 Canada 04/13/2015 11:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So how are they distributing this bug if it's not coming from hitting up Facebook? Quoting: Whore of Babylon “In principle, any page belonging to the facebook.com domain will result in the placement of a long-term, identifying cookie (e.g., an event page, a shop page, fan page …).” Lots of ways to hook into Facebook... all kinds of sites do it. Do you ever 'like' something? How the H3ll do you get them off your computer??? I have one from google that I delete and even though I delete the cache, and without me using the browser to browse, the SOB comes back. It will NOT go away! **Firefox user I'm no expert, but Google does seem to have installed processes on my mac. It have threads going that try to call home many times daily. Again, Little Snitch catches all of it (I think) and I have the option of blocking these calls. Example path from a Google process simply trying to update (update what I don't know): ../Library/Google/GoogleSoftwareUpdate/GoogleSoftwareUpdate.bundle/Contents/Resources/GoogleSoftwareUpdateAgent.app |
