One of the first things my dad taught me about making left turns, never turn the wheel while you're yielding to oncoming traffic. A unforeseen collision from behind can send you straight into oncoming traffic, just like that.

Good advice... but it looks like he was hit hard on the passenger side, and that may have shoved the car, and/or the wheel, left.

We have had THREE rear end collisions in 5 years here in Houston -- all of them while at a red light.

There is nothing scary about a low speed accident. The truck wasn't going fast enough to do him much damage even if he had hit him head on.

It appears that his left arm moves at 0:06 to turn the wheel left just a second before the first impact. The angle of the impact may have dome a little to direct his course, but I'm pretty sure he made the domino mistake.
