Office of Naval Intelligence: "China preparing for short, sharp war with Japan." | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 68916905 United States 04/14/2015 03:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "As a senior US government official recently stated, there is growing concern that China's pattern of behaviour in the South China Sea reflects an incremental effort by China to assert control of the area contained in the so-called 'nine-dash line,' despite the objections of its neighbors and despite the lack of any explanation or apparent basis under international law," Capt. Fannell said. "By the way, 'protection of maritime rights' is a Chinese euphemism for coerced seizure of coastal rights of China's neighbours," he added. [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 68916905 United States 04/14/2015 04:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | looks like a role play thread. probably a bot. articles are from 2014, and the premise from another thread that is def role play. don't know why a forum allows this crap. makes the info here unbelievable Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8334114 It's because of today's thread from an Australian whose family member is in the Navy; all contact was cut off, and families were sent a letter saying there had been a "change in mission," and family members onboard could no longer send emails for about 3 weeks. That lead to the discovery of the article on the former Chief of Naval Intelligence's statements. But...I do understand that you're paid to say otherwise, lol. Mei you shi. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68483502 United Kingdom 04/14/2015 04:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In a controversial address to the West 2014 Naval Institute Symposium in San Diego in early 2014, Capt. James Fanell, formerly Chief of Naval Intelligence for the Pacific Fleet said: “We have witnessed a massive and amphibious military enterprise and concluded that the People’s Liberation Army has been given a new task, to conduct a short, sharp war to destroy Japanese forces in the East China Sea, following with what can only be expected a seizure of the Senkaku, or even an island in the southern Ryukyu.” Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68916905 [link to www.asiasentinel.com] Capt. Fanell's reward for delivering this timely information? Being removed from office, because his announcement "embarrassed China." Holy hell. "Fanell also had harsh words to describe actions of China’s Coast Guard, which he calls a “fulltime maritime harassment service” [lmao, so true] specifically designed to advance China’s strategic interests in the East and South China Seas...It is perhaps ironic that while Fanell was speaking in San Diego, just a few miles to the north, Japanese Ground Self Defense Force troops were storming the beaches of the US Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton. They were part of a newly constituted force of soldiers trained in amphibious landing techniques to potentially recapture Japanese islands seized by the Chinese, presumably in a “short, sharp war.” [link to www.asiasentinel.com] See also: Thread: Some Sort of Chinese Military Crisis North of Australia Propaganda, it is just psychological warfare at play here |

Thanks for the info. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 61010678 Depending on how one reacts to Chinese government shills, their orders change accordingly ;) It's always good to try to draw in the more-expensive dogs (helps deplete the budget--well, they have a massive budget, so basically it just helps deplete resources e.g. the fluent-English types). It amazes me that they're so muzzled here on GLP. Never seen the like. |

The majority of youth in China (well, in China proper i.e. west of Lanzhou) are practically begging the Party to attack Japan. They all want it. Only the "big fat Party leaders," as one boy (to my great surprise) put it the other day, want to give Japan a soft touch. The military leaders, and increasing numbers of citizens, want the PLA to act now. It must be difficult to know which side to support.... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 17990748 United States 04/14/2015 04:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | China needs to kick some ass to become a larger power on the world stage. The last army they defeated was the US Marines in North Korea, and people have forgotten about the Korean War. Japan might do better as a nation becoming part of China, so it's not that big of a deal. |

I'm sure the papers are ramping up the Japan hate daily, enough to make the nationalistic, bored kids go nuts. Gotta distract from the economic slowdown somehow... War and a stockmarket hyper bubble should do the trick... |

But thanks for trying ;) Right now I'm interested in the fact that a US Navy intelligence guy announced that his office had determined, after analysis, that China was prepping for a "short sharp war" with Japan. As soon as Putin did his Putin thing in Crimea, I started wondering of it was sleight of hand to open up Taiwan for invasion--but a grabbing of the smaller islands makes more sense for now. The Party--er, the military--isn't really ready for the Taiwan thing just yet. I do think that Xi is not necessarily on board with this; I keep hearing guys slagging the Party. I don't EVER remember hearing that before. In 2008 it was all "Oh, the Holy Party protecting us from evil murderous Tibetans!!" and now guys are flat out calling the Party outdated and ineffective. Not a good sign (and I never thought I'd be advocating for the Party, lol, dang). |
