The kid is required, BY STATE LAW, to go to school.

So the state is legally required to look after that child while she is in their custody.

BTW the Pledge is not something that has been handed down from the founders. Its not constitutional law, its a law that congress passed in the 1950s. If there is one right that needs the most protection, its the first amendment and part of that is that the government doesn't have the right to keep you from speaking and it doesn't have the right to put words in your mouth either.

I understand the pledge, I see nothing wrong with it, but its not the governments job to force individuals to comply. The technocrats in communist China would be proud of this nurse, China would probably go even further and give her the power to label the girl mentally defective and send her for reeducation, "you shall comply.... you shall comply.... you shall comply..." Yah, that's not the country I'm going to live in, its not the country the founders wanted.


Irregardless, the nurse DOES have to provide her medical service. Her refusal to treat has absolutely nothing to do with her license as a nurse. I think the state's nurse licensing board needs to look at this.

In the end the pledge is just words in a statute. The bill of rights on the other hand constitutionally enshrine rights given directly to us from God. I don't think it honors the pledge to call down on someone who exercises a God given right.

Its a matter of perspective, honor the words, nation under God or honor the exercise of rights given to everyone by God upon the consecretion of this nation to God. To me the pledge celebrates the bill of rights, not the other way around.
