Let's just do away with all the welfare workers in government and force them to get jobs in the Free Market, instead of eating from the plates of those that produce?

I would guess that the majority if Americans don't know what a flat tax is, or how it would benefit them and the country.

Taxes are a scam, flat or otherwise.

If there were a flat rate consumption tax on things we buy instead of income tax it would greatly boost the economy.

1. No one could cheat and not pay as it would happen every time you buy something.

2. EVERYONE would pay even the illegals and those doing illegal things...like selling drugs and prostitution.

3. It is fair because the richer you are the more you buy therefore you pay more tax and the poor buy less and pay less tax.

4. By dropping ALL income withholding everyone who draws a check would get all of the money that is now withheld included in their pay and it would be like a MASSIVE boost to the economy.

So drop the income tax and go to a flat rate consumption tax TODAY!

Sounds good. It'll never happen, though, because a flat tax would eliminate the welfare transfer payments known as 'tax refunds,' which actually give millions of people free money that they didn't pay in during the year.

A flat tax would be ok if there were zero none no loop holes or exemptions, except food and drink.

A flat tax would in fact favor the rich at the expense of the poor.

The majority are in favor of a simpler system, but not an increase in the growing gulf between the rich and and the poor and the disappearance of the middle class.

The tax rates should be made more progressive, not less.

Taxation is theft.

The main reason we don't do it is it would put many people out of a job. How many people do you know that are accountants, auditors, tax professionals?

We would have no need for most of them with a flat tax. Nearly every single person would be able to do their own taxes if you just had to pay one percentage on total income with no loopholes or exceptions.

H&R block has a revenue of 3 billion. That's just one of many large companies that benefit off our current tax system. They will do whatever they can to keep it how it is or make it even more complicated.

Get rid of welfare and you could save at least 10% on taxes
and put these people back to work witch would improve the economy

So I have, say, 500K in savings, that I paid income tax on. I am free to buy anything with that money, subject to local and state sales tax.

Now the fed gumberment comes in and implements a flat tax... so when I go buy something, I got to pay the feds again.

As more Americans stop working and start living on their pensions, savings and other non federal income taxable money -- it benefits the guberment to do this.

Double taxation on trillions of dollars.

Now I WAS all for a flat tax -- back when I was 20 and broke -- now I wonder why I should bust my ass to save money and build up my retirement funds so I have money to spend when I retire (or more likely become so disabled I can no longer work) -- just so I can get taxed on that money a second time.

I knew a guy who did construction projects and in return he would get to claim your children on his taxes. Easy way for unaccountable money right from our government.

While I appreciate the flat tax on an individual basis what do we do with corporations? Off shoring and tax shelters make it too easy to cheat.

You'd be amazed by how many idiots there are who think that the government is doing a virtuous thing by taxing the crap out of people.

I would love to see the income tax replaced by a flat tax. The current filing system is paperwork hell for American expats. I don't see this ever happening though. The current filing system that requires you to account for and disclose your assets provides them with even more power and control than just taking your money does.

Under the current system, with the stroke of a pen, they can control where you put your money. Make it a deduction or tax exempt, and people will pour money into it. Tax the hell out of it, and people will pull their funds out of it.

If one day the US goes full commie and wants to seize all your assets, I'm sure they can find all the info they need for that over at the tax office.

They are not going to loosen their reins of control. The leash will keep being tightened, and a flat tax is no way to tighten the leash.

I guess you would really miss all that free money you get back at tax time, huh?

Could always design a grandfather date from implementation and backfill the amount on a yearly basis. So say you started saving 20 years ago they can take the amount you were taxed and retro it back to your account, as time moves on and new system generates money you get your old money back.

They talked about doing the same thing with SS if they were to do away with it.

I'm not rich but I don't think ANYONE should be at a negative tax rate. It's not my problem they made horrible life choices and have to stay home with 8 kids. Hell I have 4 and still get taxed at 28%.

We need a progressive tax, where the more money you make the more you have to pay.

Looked into this once. Found some issues:

If a consumption tax, then it effects target older generations, just when they are usually unable to increase incomes. You require most when you are a baby and an older adult.

If a consumption tax, then secondary economies, garage sales, bake sales, private sales, totally escape taxation--this would lead to rampant black markets.

If a consumption tax, then as the supply of an item decreased, the price would increase. If the item was a indispensable good, such as water, the spiraling purchase price would cause spiraling taxes on that item, reinforcing price elevation, and thus tax return.

I can agree with you on a flat tax income tax however. Say 10% Every person(that includes corporations) pays a flat 10 % on income. P. E R. O. I. D.

No loopholes. File your tax on a post card. YOURSELF.

Wipe out 2/3rds of lawyers and all of the CPA's
