Feeling the heat: Plants' behaviour is affected by the climate
A Europe-wide study has provided "conclusive proof" that the seasons are changing, with spring arriving earlier each year, researchers say.
Scientists from 17 nations examined 125,000 studies involving 561 species.

Spring was beginning on average six to eight days earlier than it did 30 years ago, the researchers said.

In regions such as Spain, which saw the greatest increases in temperatures, the season began up to two weeks earlier.

The findings were based on what was described as the world's largest study of changes in recurring natural events, such as when plants flowered.

The team of researchers also found that the onset of autumn has been delayed by an average of three days over the same period.

"One of the paper's lead authors, Tim Sparks from the UK's Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), said the findings did not go as far as pointing the finger of blame at human-induced climate change."

February 1st used to be considered the first day of spring.

When our daffodils bloom in January, you know you have a problem. WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL US ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING 20 YEARS AGO??? Oh yeah, those green fanatics. You mean they were right? What if they were right about other things like pollution, pesticides and food additives.....

February 1 St Brigid

The dandelion lights its spark
Lest Brigid find the wayside dark.
And Brother Wind comes rollicking
For joy that she has brought the spring.
Young lambs and little furry folk
Seek shelter underneath her cloak.

But until and unless it replicates you have nothing. I don't know what the evil of man will make with new technology. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I was being over dramatic. It's not so much that it's evil, it's that man focuses on the wrong problem. Make something that will grow better for him and go against nature. We need to see what we can do to make ourselves go with the natural order more.
Example - having a carrot that can grow on an iceburg is a neat parlor trick, but with global warming, of what use will it be?

Re: Climate changes shift springtime
It's real if it's in print. But what about all us people who see things like flowers blooming in January? We is idiots!! For the past 6 years now the owls in our area have had their mating patterns screwed up (no pun intended) because it's too warm in Feb.
Are the riding the short bus too? Why don't we believe what OUR senses tell us anymore? Why does a scientist/newspaper have to confirm something for it to be fact?

Re: Climate changes shift springtime
No one has to confirm it for me. I can see and feel the change. I started seeing about 5 years ago. Now the sciencist are just pointing out the facts for people who haven't taken notice. It doesn't really matter what anyone says, too many people will have to have it affect them in a BIG way before they will admit whats right in front of their faces. To me it doesn't matter if its manmade , natural or a combination of both {which is what I think}, because people will do nothing. Not that there is that much we could do to stop it. I think the point of us having a chance to help control the situation is long past. We might have been able to have had some effect if we would have found someway to curb fossel fuel use back in the 70ty's. Even if we stoped use using fossel fuel today the warming would continue. Now we might could have an effect on 2050, but as for this generation nothing we can do. i'm just trying to climatize myself, go with the seasons intead of trying to fight them, of corse that only helps to a point.
