Water pipelines should come before oil pipelines IMHO Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8137331 Of course it's a good idea, with modern trnching equiptment and plastic mains tech they can lay 100's of meters a day, they could have it finished in a yr or so with multiple gangs working at different locations, seems some govt people are braindead when it comes to ideas like this or is possibly about money idk, either way we laid big pipelines across uk's countryside for gas in no time so.... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 52154903 United States 04/19/2015 10:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The GREAT LAKES STATES saw this coming years ago ... and BEFORE anybody could think about it the leaders (Govenors and head of their respective Legislatures) of OH, MI, and WI pushed through a compact to PREVENT the diversion of Great Lakes waters elsewhere. With just a gentle shove CANADA agreed to it to ... and it then went through Congress as an INTERNATIONAL TREATY. Just in the last couple of years western state have been floating the idea of Great Lakes watershed water being diverted to the West ... but alas they are CHECKMATED due to the foresight of those GL states leaders 20 years ago (they were both Republicans AND Democrats) ... since to divert those waters now would require RENEGOTIATING THE TREATY WITH A FOREIGN COUNTRY (Canada)!! (the GL states did that ON PURPOSE ... just so the US Congress could NOT by itself ORDER the water sent west ... NOBODY, Democrat OR Republican back then in those GL states trusted Washington for the future). Unfortunately the Pac NW is eventually going to be RAPED like the Owens Valley (and the Yosemite area) was. Ever see the movie "Chinatown" (great movie with Jack Nicholson about the California Water Wars). Thankfully ... the Great Lakes area is protected, at least for a while, due to it's treaty with Canada!! which protects it's water and it's water quality) |

But beyond that, we've shown that transporting liquids (oil, even, which is harder to move) via pipelines across states is workable. Across nations, even. It's done worldwide. Why couldn't it be done with water? Like has been said, areas of California and places like my home state of Nevada are deserts and were never meant to house large population centers in the first place. We need large-scale operations to supplement the water these large-scale populations require. Either that or let these areas start to die off. Seattle does not have "too much water". How's that for a reason why it is crazy. Just because it is rainy doesn't mean it has too much water. Number One. That whole area is due for major earthquake, possibly soon, the whole are is riddled with faults. Not a good place to put a pipeline project. Number Two. California needs to take care of its deficit spending of water that goes to non-essential uses, send back millions of people who are there illegally and consuming water, and investigate water projects right there in California. Number Three. ************************************************************************ Corruptisima re publica plurimae leges. ~ Terence |

I would think a crash program to design this pipeline, pump stations, electrical generation and aqueduct would take one billion per week for two years. Then finally relief. IOWs I think California is totally fucked. Its too late and nothing can be done about it. California is one second late DOOM!!! |

I want $30 billion … to build a pipeline like the Alaska pipeline. Say, from Seattle — a place where there’s a lot of water. There’s too much water. How bad would it be to get a large, 4-foot pipeline, keep it above ground — because if it leaks, you’re irrigating!” Quoting: deanoZXT [link to www.yahoo.com (secure)] -Now in his 80's, I think our beloved Capt.
