Those are hard circumstances, I would probably have helped the cop. But then I have to ask myself what if a person was getting pummelled by a cop, would I intervene?

I know for a fact I wouldn't if the role was reversed because the latter would have dire consequences for myself.

Now that I think about it... probably is best just to do nothing in all of the above and go buy a taco.

Cops were human at one time and without all their gear, back up, dogs, weapons, and apcs. They can still be beaten up.

Most don't even know how to street fight which is shown why they grab for the gun so fast at any sign of trouble. They are trained like dogs, to be scared.

Twenty years ago the last of the real cops were retiring to be replaced by the current welfare rolls of lifetime government "service".

People need to realize that during any type of unrest that can challenge the cops to an even fight, they will run away. Anyone that has ever been in a large riot and flanked the cop's lines with bottles and piss, knows they cut and run.

Most are US military trained and in any even fight the US military training kicks in, panic ensues, and they cut and run. The last great warriors the US had was back in the era of John Basilone, since then the US has lost every conflict, except Panama and Grenada.

It's sad to see the country falling apart, but government welfare is to blame. These days most everyone is on the welfare rolls, either by getting a check for not working, or getting a welfare check for working in government. A nation of welfare feeders can't stand. Our country was made strong by Free Men and Free Markets. Welfare has wrecked that. Heck, ever government "workers" claim to pay taxes and produce something! LMAO!

OP is most likely telling a lie, but it's pretty easy resist and over come the cops with people that aren't afraid, mobile, and can understand the training the cops have had and how they will react under pressure.

I hope my children grow up in a welfare free world, one without government welfare for either "working" or watching Oprah. Anyone taking a government check is on welfare.

This is probably a made up story. If not, you and the others who stood by need to be prosecuted.

Here in Texas we are required by law to provide assistance to peace officers who are being attacked -- no "bystanding."

More than likely made up but agreed. They really do deserve everything that comes their way.

added- And that makes me a little sad. In the 80's and 90's, I would have tried to get help for the cop. Not anymore. I'd cheer like I was at the colosseum.

well take the scenario even if false - I'd be afraid to step in too. I'd have to think twice, that's for sure. But the cop has the weapon, so it's not like stepping into a bar brawl. He's got the great equalizer.

Why would anyone want to get involved? You don't know what's going on, so why ASSume the cop isn't doing something bad like stealing drugs or money? It's very un American to ASSume the cop is always in the right, when HISTORY shows us something different.

Your comment shows just how easy it will be for China to roll through Texas with nothing to stop them. Under your viewpoint, they would have to dress like cops and all the smart, good people of "Texas" would rush out to help them for fear of prison.

I doubt it, but one of them is all tore up because of it.

Remember, there were two others there, one of them was a good bit over 200 and definitely didn't look like he's used to holding a handbag. The other one looked more like me, average but neither old nor crippled.
