Be careful when removing them from yourself. I found a very small one embedded, removed with fingers, and squeezed all the nasties into my blood by accident.

I'm very ill now, and it's extremely tough to find a doctor who is literate in tick-borne illnesses. The Infectious Disease Society of America have a standard of care where the guidelines seem to have been written more for insurance companies, rather than diagnosis and treatment. They ignore all evidence beyond their own internal investigations.

It is akin to a pharmaceutical company doing internal research on drugs that they wish to pass FDA control standards. Pray you never have to deal with this shit.
