They are looking for particle to manipulate into other particles, like gold. Also, we will be able to travel though space quicker an perhaps have homes build in the sky. There are a lot of possible applications to this research, but it is still in its infancy. |

The facility has a huge cylinder that houses a airless tube that spins particles at need the speed of light and crashes them together to measure the outcome of the collision with sensitive instruments. Some say that doing this can cause black matter to appear and possibly swallow everything we know. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68340521 United States 05/05/2015 07:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CERN is a nuclear research group. They are using the world's largest and most powerful particle collider, (Large Hadron Collider) to slam subatomic particles together at extremely high speeds. The collisions will let scientists actually see the quantum nature of the Universe more clearly. Basically, they are going to cause particle collisions that generate temperatures 100,000 times hotter than our Sun to melt protons and neutrons to see shit they've only theorized about... maybe even find the Higgs particle. Some think that since we've never truly analyzed black holes these scientists will accidentally create one in the process... I think the chances are extremely slim, but anything that runs off 14 trillion electron-volts might be something to be weary of. |
