Check the volume of trades.

For example. Let's say you have a stock and it's valued at 100 and it's traded 1000 times. Now lets say that value goes to 200 but it's only traded 500 times. What you have is essentially the same value, it's being bought and sold half as much when the value is doubled.

Is the volume high or low? Is trading increasing with value or decreasing?

Also, stock values in many cases are increasing because many companies are doing buybacks. This leaves less stock on the table to buy and artificially increases the perceived value. To hold up that price the companies have to continue to buy back their shares. The problem with this is shares are finite and when they're all gone and the company owns them then the company is no longer publicly traded, it's now private.

In the short term this props up price and increases dividends. In the long term it means there's nothing left to invest in and when they companies stop buy it back or people catch on that the valuation is clearly linked to the company creating scarcity it all comes tumbling down.

There's also a lot of hedge funds buying in right now by taking out LOANS, seriously. There are organizations taking out subprime loans and using that liquidity to invest in the Dow Jones. You thought the housing bubble was bad?

In any event it's not the printing of money we need to worry about, inflation isn't an issue as long as we're the global reserve currency. We've printed our way out of several depressions, the gold rush and going off the gold standard were two such cases.

What we need to worry about are those taking loans to buy stocks defaulting on those loans.
