Last Cause User ID: 14214761 United States 05/09/2015 11:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We had bats in out attic when we moved into a farm in Wisconsin. Our cat did a spectacular job of getting rid of them. She would sit on the roof of the porch, and when they came out of the eaves above her, she would leap into the air with her paws spread out to catch them in mid air. If only there were cheap hand held video cameras back in the 70s. Once the bats were killed off, we had a hell of a wood tick infestation. I kept a broom by the bed and I would wake at night to sweep half a dozen off the ceiling. Same thing in the morning. Thanks for reminding me. The cat was a glorious mid-air dogfighter, by the light of the setting sun. Love is easy and messy. |

FarMore (OP) User ID: 32057893 United States 05/10/2015 12:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's definitely apart of the doom equation. So far replies from Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois all verifying this. Deer ticks are more rare and carry that disease with more frequency. Maybe more wood ticks equals more deer ticks? Probably not. I know several people with Lyme disease. I guess it remains to be seen if the rates of infection go up, but who the heck will show us that! Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old written of beforehand unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 67749740 United States 05/10/2015 12:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was hoping that this long, bad winter would have killed most of them off!Guess not so I'm spraying myself and the dogs with DEET! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51959001 Because of all the snow it will be a bad year for ticks. Snow acts as a blanket and insulates them from the cold. If there was little to no snow it would still take weeks of sub zero weather to lower their numbers. They are hardy creatures and built for survival. One thing that will help to lower their numbers this spring and summer is dry weather. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69179479 ^^^This^^^ Just make sure if you have cats to avoid using it on them or around them as it can make them very sick or even kill them. |

FarMore (OP) User ID: 32057893 United States 05/10/2015 12:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The best way to kill them is just to rip them in half. Forget the lighter, toilet, paper towel or hornet spray. If you can stomach it, do it, and it's done. Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old written of beforehand unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ." |

If it's in, just pull it out as low as you can. Add peroxide if it's deep. You'll be fine. Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old written of beforehand unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 65353436 United States 05/10/2015 12:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is in the early stage of trials, but I have been using alcohol pads (buy at any pharmacy) Used by diabetics before an injection etc. unfold the pad once, and surround the tick holding it gently. The tick will release (or loosen) its grip as the alcohol is toxic to it. A gentle tug and the tick comes off intact...head and all. I then swab the bite area...two birds one swab...also keeps my fingers clean. I generally smash them and note the blood color. Also, if you happen to have some 33% H2O2 and a syringe, draw up some h2o2 and inject into the tick...it literally explodes! Great fun and quite satisfting. I think there are vides of this on YT lol |

Sunny Daze User ID: 69011683 United States 05/10/2015 02:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | LD has 75 symptoms ... all vague all random or so it seems, if you have 25 (or more) YOU KNOW, and can diagnose yourself, google it ... it is called "the silent pandemic" ... it won't kill you but you will wish you were dead (pets get it too) obtw, they did a "field experiment" in MD a couple of years back and collected thousands of "wood ticks" not just deer ticks and 90 per cent of them were LD carriers not fear mongering, trying to save you from a real bad experience ... that I though I could ignore red ring ? you got it! Anonymous Coward User ID: 20204535 United States 05/10/2015 04:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This year is crazy for wood ticks. It should be considered an infestation at this point. We cannot make a move without getting them on us, the dog, etc. The customers I hear talking of their stories are mind-boggling. People not even walking in the woods or grass and getting them. My dog will have them on her so often that "tick checks" need to be done even if she's outside for 10 minutes. Quoting: FarMore For people "in the know", don't you hate it when you find one on you in the middle of the night? You go from 5% awake to 100% awake in two seconds! Then the tick anxiety sets in: Did I get them all? Are there more? Should I go in the bathroom and look? Then you're totally awake and more tired the next day. For people that don't know what they are, these little critters are like leeches but are small crawling insects. Even worse are the deer ticks, which have a higher ratio of carrying disease and are much smaller. Anyone else out there seeing the trend? Yes. Northeast Wisc here. We hate it, very stressful. I live in the woods and ride my atv almost every day in the woods and have not seen so much as ONE tick. For the slower people no, I am not in Finland. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69027961 You are fortunate, some of us are getting nailed by the little bloodsuckers. There is nothing quite as compelling as a bad idea whose time has come... Thulsa |
