I can't believe most US cities have under a million people population wise

LOTS of habitable areas here and millions of miles of freeways, no need to concentrate to that density level.

On second look, the population of the metropolitan area is much greater than the poulation stated on wikipedia

Houston has a population of 2.2 mil

The actual cities sometimes have way less than you think, but you're right, the area is what needs to be accounted for when you are looking at our populations.

They have a lot more big cities too. Some Aus states only have one big city and we only have 8 states (if the ACT even qualifies as a state).

like San Antonia is huge city area wise, detroit actually has under a million people but metro area is like 5 million.

I think there's about 20 cities with metro area about 2-3 million.

I'm just wondering how long til the borders of these metro areas reach eachother and there's nothing left but housing developments all over entire face of the earth.

The greater Houston area has more like 6 million. Counting the burbs..Houston is really 60 miles long by 60 miles wide.
