Dear Mountain Woman and Janey,
I love our guys and gals in the military too but, you do know that we are not fighting in the ME for any other reason than to protect our vital need for oil, right?

The involvement of US troops in the ME is based on maintaining our supply of oil from the those countries. I am no fan of Islamic extremists. I am not on their side. But the sides are murky at best. I believe our troops are just pawns in a big game of economics.

I know that in order for my current lifestyle to be maintained, we must wage this war. But I truly would rather our dollars be spent developing alternative energy sources or domestic oil and gas than sacrificing the lives of our men and women in a "spin" war.

I believe that very rich people who make lots of money on ME oil have devised this war to continue their profits. I don't know anything much about the larger game of thrones we participate in. I am just an old grandma who has studied history all my life. War is generally about money, with few exceptions in the modern world.

Please, I wish we could stop risking young lives in senseless combats. Couldn't we all work to change our values. We don't really need big cars to drive and big trucks to transport food across big distances. Local small farms can produce better food than that moved by farming corporations. We don't need big houses with big energy bills. I could go on, but my point is, we are ruled by people who make money and most of us regular folk have no part in that group.

What am I missing?
