Friday, September 01, 2006 - FreeMarketNews.com

A mysterious disease seems to be striking a region in Georgia, one that has local scientists and health officials both baffled and alarmed. According to a story in the Fayette Citizen, the birds and insects of north Fayette and south Fulton counties have been disappearing, the dogs and cats are sick and dying, and many of the human residents in at least one area have been ill for the past several months.

The presumed cause stems from an "onion-like chemical odor" which reportedly first showed up during the Memorial Day holiday. One theory is that the smell comes from the chemical odorant and pesticide MOCAP; others are not so sure. Symptoms, for the dogs and cats as well as the humans, include vomiting, diarrhea, skin irritation, and problems with breathing. The main difference is that some of the smaller animals have died.

Notably, the story said, of the animals so far identified as sick or dying, nearly all live within a two-mile radius of the Philips Services Corp. plant on Georgia Highway 92

p.s. I noticed spoiled onion smell on and off for 2 months in TX area...I've been sick on and off too with intestinal issues
anyone else?

Hello, I am Rontus.

The smell comes from US Government Chem Trails that are being used against a certain group of beings who have had contact with low-frequency aliens.

You can avoid the low frequency plague by meditating on me, I will save you.

Sounds like methane being released from the ground? Either from it being heated up or pulled apart..

This was also present in Charleston, SC.

is anyone mapping every where this has been reported? I would be interested to see if there are any correlations.

I'm in Charleston and haven't noticed any smells, except for this one area of marsh where raw sewage runs through. That's been a problem for years though. Got a link?

Re: Does anyone else Smell SPOILED ONION ODOR???
The smell you describe is not related to WNV or any pathogen vector. got any pesticide production in the area. I came across similar odour in a lab testing a pesticide patent some years ago. uncertain if it relates to the case you're referring to. This calls for some gaschroma, really like to know the results. if it tests positive, it is no biggie. short term exposure probably does nothing. longer term presence could mean some storage facility is leaking. are there any around?? All you're smeeling is the effects of the earth heating up under your feet to such an extreme that it is simply the boiling of the ground far below the surface.
Vents are being opened up allowing the smell first, but next will be smoke, then the fire...

Watch the volcanoes.

Re: Does anyone else Smell SPOILED ONION ODOR???
ethyl mercaptan (C2H5SH)
This man-made molecule is toxic. Inhalation can cause nausea, headaches, lack of coordination, as well as kidney and liver damage. I've smelled this one and personally don't think it's too noxious (skunk is worse). Some people believe it smells like a combination of rotting onion and cabbage, mixed in with a bit of sewer gas. I think it smells a bit more like old rancid buttered popcorn. This molecule is very volatile and can be smelled in low concentrations, so it is used as a warning odorant for liquid propane gas.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79042

Very different smell. Natural gas/propane/LP is distinct due to this stuff. I know the onion/garlic smell of which the OP speaks and it seems to come from refineries and aromatics storage plants within my state, although I can't verify this. A storage tank leak at an ethyl mercaptan processing plant in upstate New York caused a ruckus some years ago. Scores of people called in gas leaks for weeks after it happened. This sounds like a smell that has many confused and larmed.

Re: Does anyone else Smell SPOILED ONION ODOR???
funny, over the past couple weeks I've noticed a garlic odor... coming from me! I noticed it would start within 30 minutes of finishing a mountain dew bought from a particular soda machine from work, and last for days before going away. I don't know if it was from the soda, or what... from the research I've done it would seem to indicate something I consumed had high amounts of selenium in it... enough to cause garlic breath odor.

I've also eaten an unusually large amount of fresh garden vegetables lately.. much more then I ever have, mostly tomatoes. I've heard SD has high levels of selenium in the soil.. perhaps it was that... in any case, I cut out both these items and am fine now.

Re: Does anyone else Smell SPOILED ONION ODOR???
it's strange..i noticed the smelling lingering in my house on and off. It's as though it's a live odor bacteria that is not dying off.. I sometimes smell that onion smell in my stools.
And I don't eat that much onion.
In the past, I ate onions all the time, this is definitely not from that.

If you smell it in your stools you may need a heavier coat or shellac or varnish. Then sand lightly and give a final coat.

I used to notice an onion smell coming from the shower water, it's didn't seem like a spoiled onion just onion. I take it that the spray made the odor easier to detect.

Never got sick from it either.

Re: Does anyone else Smell SPOILED ONION ODOR???
First of all I came across this site by doing a google search. I am not into any ufo or other crazy stuff but I was looking to find answers on a peculiar odor I have come across.

In the Treasure Coast area of Fl,where I occasionally visit a friend who recently moved there for the past five months, I notice a scallion-like odor when I go jogging around the community. I smelled it here and there and I thought it was probably the local flora.

Now that I am looking to buy a property there, I am bothered more by the odor. When I have gone to look at the properties I have pinched the nearby leaves and some flowers but I do not get the odor from them. So now I am thinking could this odor be some kind of gas? More so, I am thinking could this be some kind of toxic gas.

I don't want to buy and then be stuck getting sick with a valueless home. I will continue to research before I buy.

Re: Does anyone else Smell SPOILED ONION ODOR???
There was a story on TV about a family who purchased their dream house only to discover later that it was terribly infested with gardener snakes. Evidently, the snakes' den was located directly beneath their home. They also had a problem with their water smelling like onions. After further investigation they discovered that when snakes are frightened, they spray/emit an odor that smells like onion. The show didn't mention where the odor is emitted from, but my guess is that they do it like skunks do it...through a gland from their ANUS! To make matters worse, this onion smelling liquid has a high probability of containing the salmonella bacteria and tapeworms; symptoms of Salmonella infection includes diarrhea, fever, loss of appetite, etc. All members of this poor family exhibited these symptoms. They ended up having to foreclose on their home, as they obviously couldn't find a buyer, and move elsewhere...good luck to each and everyone of you folks in Georgia
