I read on another thread that the dark steam is caused by earth mixing with the water. I don't know if that's normal or a bad sign.

The dirt is common, especially when the park has been rattled by any global quake that hit them particularly hard.

Waters rush through the landscape, picking up some things, while dissolving others.

I've not seen much of that this season, as opposed to last spring when we saw a good deal of it.

I would think that if it's sporadic, it's probably normal, while a 'bad sign' might also involve huge continuing 'gas' bursts which, instead of just dirt, shoot chunks of debris into the sky.

Someone called me a shill yesterday, so I'm a bit concerned that anything I post is now suspect.

But I'm basing my considerations on things I have read on USGS sites, and various technical papers I've come across over many months of seeking information.

If that is shilling, I suppose what I'm really doing is shilling shills.

IDK how else to describe my angst over this

I watched the entire video. All I saw was a spectacular light show across the hill, as Old Faithful was building up for her regular eruption.

There were some gases glowing -which is very common- and people shining flashlights at times on the steam. I am certain that the brilliant lights were just other examples of the electric effects we've seen before.

In the beginning of the video these effects were very brilliant...so I can understand why he became overly concerned, but nothing I saw suggested that Yellowstone was about to blow, as he was frightened was certain to happen.

I will admit that it was much more vibrant than we normally see, with something exactly what I had actually witnessed a bit earlier in the night (or, maybe at the same time, because I have no idea what time either of us was watching) trailing across the ground in the steam effusions as Old Faithful was erupting, but there WERE two rather large earthquakes which rattled the park some days ago, so having some extra volumes of minerals and gas being dissolved in the plume waters seems natural to me.

What I won't say is that this is a false-alarm, so we have no reason to keep watching; we should never stop... for no one knows when aspects will change. But for now, I am pretty certain that what he captured was just an amazing example of volcanic areas in motion. He should be pleased that he caught such an awesome sequence.

However, I saw NONE of the lightening he was exclaiming was lightening as he was filming, and without any doubt I saw flashlight shining in one particular sequence when he was freaked, saying it was more lightening.

He mentioned red glows to the friend he had called during filming, but I did not see that. What he had seen was the red colors in the pixilations while Old Faithful was having a wonderful eruption under the light of the Full Moon. We all know these pixelations are something we always see at night...nothing more. Not lava, and not red orbs, despite the words he used to interpret them.

As I have already said, I do not fault him for seeing such a spectacular show, and being tempted to read more into it -as we have ALL been prone to do at times.

It's just not something I think was a harbinger of impending doom.

Still, tonight the Moon will be rather full, so I think it might be fun to watch, to see if this show continues.

That is all! blobr

The second video you shared was for the wrong night, but when I go to the right night (6/3/15), it clearly also catches the flash that I caught at the 2:07 mark:

I've taken a daytime shot from the same video and circled on it the area where this flare was captured:

Thanks for this! There is a path there and on its left side (outside the image) it is the parking lot. If you search the pages back -i think it was on this thread- you will see images from the parking during daytime, when they decided to turn the camera and show around.
Saying this, i really dont know if these are car lights, flashlights from people walking or something else.
But as in many videos we can see the lights light whole areas in the front of the screen (closer to us), maybe these are car lights.

All right, due to Ostria 1 finding us streaming night time footage out at Old Faithful, I have gone to the night that this guy filmed his video. Here's the video for that night:

I have compared his video to this video. It appears from what I can tell that he is central standard time, just like me, so there will be an hour's difference between his time and the time on the live streaming video. His time will be an hour ahead of the live streaming video time.

The issues we have here I think are that he is zooming into small sections making them look bigger than they actually are. I have compared his video to the live streaming video and here is what I am finding. All screenshots are screenshots taken from the video above of the live streaming video from that night.

The light he sees in the very beginning appears to be a flashlight or headlights. Here is a screenshot I have taken from the video which seems to correspond to what he is seeing:

[link to i.imgur.com]

At the 5:00 minute mark (which is 11:08 his time since at the start of the video it was 11:03), he talks about the water and having never seen that before. It is water from Old Faithful that pools up after it's eruption and I see it all the time. it is shiny because of the sun's reflection. Here's a screenshot from the video from the same time frame showing that it is just the water with the sun reflecting off of it:

[link to i.imgur.com]

I think the flash that gets him all excited at the 5:17 mark (which is still 11:08 his time) is just headlights. Here's a screenshot of around that time frame from the other video:

[link to i.imgur.com]

The little flash he mentions at the 6:20 mark (which is 11:09 his time) is probably just a flashlight. Here's a screenshot of around that time frame from the other video. I've circled the light I'm pretty sure he is referencing:

[link to i.imgur.com]

When he freaks out at the 7:39 mark (which is 11:10 his time), I'm pretty sure it's still just a car headlight or flashlight. Here's a screenshot from that time frame:

[link to i.imgur.com]

At the 8:05 mark (11:11 his time) where he talks about "lights they're shining back there," is still the same flashlights/headlights from the screenshot above.

At the 8:22 mark (11:11 his time) he's talking about the lights in Old Faithful's smoke again. I think it's a flashlight. Here's a screenshot from that time frame with what he's seeing circled:

[link to i.imgur.com]

The red hue he references at the 9:54 mark (11:12 his time) is most likely headlights. Here’s a screenshot from that time frame:

[link to i.imgur.com]

At the 11:25 mark (11:14 his time), he talks about one hell of a venting. To me, it looks like a normal eruption. Here is a screenshot from that time frame:

[link to i.imgur.com]

At the 11:31 mark he makes reference to "since when does lightning come out of a damn vent hole." I'm not seeing any lightning in his video or the live streaming video.

At the 13:15 mark (11:16 his time) he talks about it lightening again. Here's the screenshot from that time frame:

[link to i.imgur.com]

Here is a screenshot from what I think is happening at the 14:17 (11:17 his time) mark:

[link to i.imgur.com]

At the 14:49 mark (11:17 his time), he think it's park people walking around. I'm pretty sure they are tourists. He goes on like they are walking around like it's nothing. If you watch the live stream video above, it is because there really is nothing going on.

I think it looks so dramatic on this guy's video because of the zooming in.

All right, I made a video last night trying to recreate the effects seen in the video that is the subject of this thread and it has now finished uploading. When I am zoomed in on the areas, it does appear to create a flashing effect that I was not seeing with my naked eye as I filmed. I didn't realize at the time that I made the video that I was really wobbling the camera really bad, so sorry for that. I may try to do another one tonight in the same time frame and try to keep it more steady. Here's the video:

Also, there was some question as to why the two videos looked different. The claim was made that his video appeared to be darker so I didn't have the right time frame from the second video, even though I did provide screenshots showing a section of the videos I used to confirm that it was indeed the same time frame. I took a screenshot while I was filming so that I could compare it to the video's imagery for differences in lighting. Here they are:

[link to i.imgur.com]
[link to i.imgur.com]

The first image is the actual screenshot of the live stream. The second image is a screenshot of the video I made of the 1st screenshot. As you can see, my video did darken the live stream screenshot. It also seemed to alter the colors, giving them more blue and red hues to them.

Re: Yellowstone to erupt? Strange things over night.
I read on another thread that the dark steam is caused by earth mixing with the water. I don't know if that's normal or a bad sign.
 Quoting: Dragonface

The first image is the actual screenshot of the live stream. The second image is a screenshot of the video I made of the 1st screenshot. As you can see, my video did darken the live stream screenshot. It also seemed to alter the colors, giving them more blue and red hues to them.

Good job though a bit shaking! hehe
I managed to see some flashes when i first watched it but didnt keep the time of the video then i couldnt find them again.
Tonight the feed was down and when it came back (around 3.45 am local time) i didnt notice anything interesting as long as watched it. No people around either.
Also the seismographs have calmed down in general so probably all is quite today.

I think everything has died down ...We can expect to see some sights after all it is a Supervolcano which is not dormant , but if people are expecting to see more than what we have seen already will be disappointed ,some of the flashes can be explained away as camera flashes and car lights ...Notice I did say some ...For the Uk ac I have been watching Yellowstone for quite some time and not prone too installing panic and fear when there is logical explanations ......

Depends, we still havent found the connection with other earth events (eg. earthquakes and volcanic erruptions) if there are some interesting ones. I have a feeling that we will see more during this summer.. and i do agree with your "some" remark

Really sorry about the wobble. I really didn't realize I was doing it and I will probably try another one tonight with more focus on not shaking the darn camera so much. When I watched the video, I was surprised to see some flashes here and there too because I didn't see any with my naked eye while I was filming.

Yellowstone seems to pick up a lot of seismic activity from quite far off EQs and these seem to be increasing in magnitude lately ....There might be a few interesting sights but like I said very doubtful on an |Eruption

I am not sure as to what is going on.. but in watching the web cam, there are Park Rangers standing guard at a viewing area. Every time someone tries to walk towards the seats so they can watch the geyser, they direct them further down the path.

And the web cam is not pointed towards the geyser.
