THE NEWLY EMERGING "HPM [devices] come in different flavors," says a second industry specialist. "It can make it uncomfortable for a human being to be in the beam by relying on high average power to heat the skin. Another is used to confuse or burn out missile seekers. The level of peak and/or average power depends on the specific technique being used to counter the threat.

Duh. Microwaves for heating food came about because radar technicians had chocolate bars melt in their pockets.

I used to work at LAX. We lost a guy who was working in front of an airliner. Radar burned his head off.

BS. Aircraft radar doesn't have the power to do that. Also, most installations have the radar wired through the WOW (weight-on-wheels) switches...they remain in standby until weight-off-wheels.

Re: Radar Becomes A WeaponQuote

I have a good friend who was in the Navy about 20 years ago. He told me how they were on a shooting range (an island) trying to hit various targets with 50 cal. machine guns and they were so bad that the Captain ran down, grabbed a radar console, set it to "pulsed", and trained the radar onto the targets. The targets burned to nothing in about 10 secs.

Usually you're pretty current w/ info, Kent, but radar as a weapon has been around a long time.

these waves are unnatural
and they will harm biological organisms
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 114312

I'm sure microwaves are natural(in space).
I remember one time I set up a dish(micro wave antenna)
in the desert. Just peaking over a burm.
I put signs up stating Danger Micro wave radiation.
And the grunts ignored the signs and
decided that the shade from the burm
was good. They sat there till they all started complaining of headaches to the
Leutinant which in turn I had to
ed u ma kate on a micro wave(The fact
that is how he heated his pizza in college). What happens to kittens in the microwave...dee dee dee.

Also if a bird(or bug) lands on the
ball at the end of the HF antenna on
a military vechical and you are transmitting it will cook too...

It's now that the mainstream rags are coming around with hints of a more advanced application.

been watching this for quite a while:

Thanks Kent. Not sure how all this applies to the general public; yeah I know I’m a bit dense. I do remember in days of old we used to sit in front of the console of our Air Traffic Controller radar and fry rabbits! The antennae was set up for glide slope approach and the power turned up to max and the rabbits would drop like flies! We thought it was cool, dumb 19 year olds yep I know.

Re: Radar Becomes A WeaponQuote

I have a question for the techs:

We now live within an EM sea like never before. How do all these fields and transmissions interact. Could a big wave be kicked up inadvertantly as a result of side by side transmissions?

Also could a remote signal be intensionally laced into or pulsed into conventional transmissions to kick up a more intense wave?

This below spurs the question:
