These dumbass behavioral questions simply shows who's most confident/arrogant and who can brag about themselves best.

Why do ALL companies hire this way?

If I was in charge of hiring I would do a short interview, but also add an iq test and credit check. I would give the interview 20% importance, and the iq test and credit check 40% importance each.

People with over 120 iq and over 800 fico scores are not deadbeats and those are the people organizations should be targeting, not the best interviewer (bullshitter).

Yeah it's ridiculous. I was unemployed for 9 months, couldn't get rehired in an industry I worked 11 years in because I wasn't a good hoop jumper (interviewer). Fortunately I did get hired with a good company in March.

And then many people bullshit their way through the interview making it seem as if they are very qualified when they really aren't. Then the company expects great things from a professional bullshitter who doesn't deliver and the company loses money from hiring douchebag conmen. Then the company downsizes or lays off deadbeats who complain that they need more money in their paycheck.

Not that the company isn't to blame for anything else, of course, but I think what I'm saying does hold some water.

I used to help hire people so I'll tell you since you don't seem to get it

There is a fine balance needed, between confidence and douchery. Sales needs it the most, the ability to attract people but other departments need it too.

Much of the questioning and how you answer also shows how you work with other people, on a team, in a department.

If you don't listen to what you're told, don't jump hoops, noone wants you. Stay home and be a rebel smoking pot then you dumb fucks out there.

Adapt and be part of the solutions or you're causing problems.

Some companies actually do a credit check along with a background check now, even for some minimum wage jobs.

There also used to be a few companies (I don't know if they still do this) that would give IQ tests for open recruitment type employment, but that was 20yrs ago.

For some jobs that require handling of cash or those in a corporate type setting, I can see how a credit check could be useful in finding a proper hiree, but not for the lower end jobs. People who have been unemployed due to factors out of their control will often have no credit or bad credit, and if credit scores affect them getting employed it just makes it that much harder.

I think along with the interview, and IQ tests for hiring, companies should give a skills test to potential employees related to the job they are applying for. Years ago, some companies did this, rather than just hiring to fill a quota and then giving a grace period where the hiree is trained to do their job. There are many skilled workers who could easily jump in to those jobs productively rather than wasting time on someone who doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. As others have said though, its all about getting someone moldable into most positions now, rather than who is best suited and skilled.

I also think hiring requirement for some jobs in the public sector that deal directly with people, management or secure tasks done within companies (handling of money, handling of personal information, handling of trade secrets, etc.)should also include a psychology and personality test. Of course, that gets into invasion of privacy and profiling territory. Looking around over the years at those in interpersonal and security level jobs, there are many unfit to hold those positions.

i worked for a company that does a wood laminate type product.

the initial process to get hired was sort of an I.Q. test, it was basic math and such.

now when i went to take this test there was probably 30 people in that room. 95% of them were naggers. they were all copying off of each other. they either all passed or they all failed, lmfao.

That sounds like a poorly managed and executed skills test, not an IQ test.

It reminds me of an episode I experienced a few years ago while interviewing for a temporary management position. All of the prospective hirees were put together in a room and given the basic rundown of daily operations, along with an in depth speech about interoffice theft and trust issues that they had been experiencing of late.

After the speech, the interviewer brought out an item, sold by the company, for us to assemble together, placed it on a central table and left the room. There were no instructions in the materials given to us, but a few of us scoured the room looking for them anyway- to no avail. We did the best we could using the visual examples of the product found in the room, and our skills and knowledge of what the product was for.

A few minutes later, the interviewer came back in and inspected our progress, then told us to stop assembly. They then asked us if we had found the instructions, or thought to ask for them. The person then went over to their desk, and dug through the drawers briefly pulling out the instructions.

We were all basically told that we failed that part of the interview because we didn't retrieve the instructions or go looking for the interviewer for more info.

I applied for a minimum wage job recently, and the questions in the application process were ridiculous. It said to pick the best answer, and if you disagreed with both choices, to pick the one you disagreed with least. So one set of questions was either A) I enjoy working in a group, as long as everyone knows what they are doing, or B) Sometimes my thoughts confuse me...And then the very next set was A) I prefer to work alone or B) I am more of a follower than a leader.....For like 20 minutes it was picking the lesser of two evils. They really seemed like trick questions. Another minimum wage job I applied to did a drug test, which I knew I had no problem with. When the 48 hours passed that they said it would take to get the results, I called, and then they said it would take a week for the background test. What happened to interview/hire on the spot?

That reminds me of a minimum wage job I interviewed for years ago. The questions were psyche based questions or statements, to which you would give a yes or no answer to by checking a box in a chart next to it showing how much you agree or disagree. I recall one statement was "People are generally honest." I responded that I didn't completely agree.

I ended up getting a call back after the interview, in which I was supposed to be given the brush off, but I noticed the person who called me seemed uneasy about it. When I asked why, she stated it had to do with how I answered the interview. Long story short, I arranged to go in and discuss their concerns in person and eventually got the job.

Although, I had to explain to them my interpretation of honesty was based on the level of shrinkage and interoffice theft they had been experiencing in their company...along with the little white lies people tell every day which are often mistaken as "nicety", such as I experienced from the interviewer during my interview and phone call.
