You might want to UNDERSTAND the "Treaty of Tripoli" ...
In those days, there was no Marine Corps, in fact it was formed just for this battle against the Islamists.

The reason that they made it NOT about 'religion' was the fact that they were dealing with Islam.

If you read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, you will find that "FREEDOM OF RELIGION" are the key words. It does NOT proclaim that we are a Christian nation, although most of the colonists were one variety of Christian or another. Even among Christian churches, there are certain denominations that claim that all other denominations (Christian) are "LOST" and going to Hell.
