Fire on Breton Sound oil platform, 28 workers evacuated, Coast Guard says

The U.S. Coast Guard on Friday (May 22) said it is responding to a report of a fire on an oil production platform in Breton Sound Block 21, in Plaquemines Parish, with 28 workers evacuated from the platform and no injuries reported.

A Coast Guard flight over the area observed a 1.4 nautical mile rainbow sheen drifting southwest of the platform.

Sailors aboard the offshore supply vessel Miss Katherine reported the fire to the Coast Guard at 2:50 a.m. Friday, and said they had evacuated the workers aboard the platform, which is owned by Texas Petroleum Investment Co.

The platform, owned by Texas Petroleum Investment Co, has an estimated 4,000 barrels of crude oil on board, the Coast Guard said. It was not clear if the company also operated the well. - See more at: [link to www.rigzone.com]
