Why does it need state legislation for clergy to be able to refuse to marry gay couples? This is a personal choice. This is how insane this country is getting where we need the state to make decisions for us. Freedom of choice is gone. What next? Forcing engineers to work for free because they're too expensive? Anonymous Coward User ID: 68885272 United States 05/22/2015 07:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP) -- The state House has preliminarily approved a bill letting clergy members refuse to perform same-sex marriages, further shielding Texas from a possible U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing gay couples to wed. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1424125 The measure excuses religious elders from performing weddings that violate their "sincerely held" religious beliefs. It passed 141 to 2 Thursday after easily clearing the Senate last month. Back by Republicans who control both chambers, the bill is similar to controversial "religious objections" proposals in Indiana and Arkansas. Supporters say they protect religious freedoms, but advocacy groups see them as licenses to discriminate against gay people. The language of the Texas proposal is less hot-button. But it comes after a more-divisive bill prohibiting government employees from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples died last week amid Democrat stall tactics. In other news, Muslims kill Christians and no charges are filed, due to their "sincerely held religious beliefs" People don't think this shit through. They think their religion protects them, but you know what? people can believe anything. That shouldn't get you out of laws. For example, my religious beliefs prohibits me from following ANY law and paying taxes. Boom. |

But all of a sudden, respecting personal liberty of other people is breaking your religion. Apparently, you do not understand the ordinances that were eliminated at the cross, or as the bible describes, "the laws that were against us". And do you really think that FORCING someone to be involved with something that totally violates their conscious and their faith, is somehow "not respecting the personal liberty of others"?? As if a couple of gays can't find someone else to bake their cake, or whatever? To be honest, you are so deluded and far gone, I don't even know if it is even possible to unravel that mess between your libtard ears. |

Any sanctions imposed for refusal should be taken from within the religious structure's hierarchy. There are other officiants that can be found, both religious and not to the preference of the couple. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42889993 The Bible forbids sodomy. It is that simple. No cleric who follows the Bible can marry 2 men, unless they have decided to follow man's rules instead of God's. Liberalism is totalitarianism with a human face – Thomas Sowell |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24957083 United States 05/22/2015 08:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What happened to separation of church and state? Why do churches need protection from the federal government by the state. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 882045 "Oh please state, protect us from the sodomites" say the churches. 501(c)3 stauts iis the ONLY reason the churches have to hide under the states skirt and be "protected" from the Feds riules. Without that charitable designation, the church could tell any sodomite that a wedding ain't gonna happen, and nobody could do anything about it. And yet all the stupid, ignorant sheep clap their hoofs and bleat cheers that the state is "protecting" the church. They aren't protecting them. They OWN them. Let me tell you something. If the state can protect you, they can unprotect you. Congratulations churches. You are now even MORE dependent on the state. Don't you churches just LOVE the state now? Now bow down to them, and thank them. It won't fly anyway. 501(3)c status is a federal tax status designation. The state has nothing to say about it. The answer is to legally get out of that status. But that probably is it going to happen. Just think of the lost revenue. Apparently it makes you a fag for bringing logic to the discussion, so I don't know anymore. But no one in America cares about liberty anymore, so who cares? |

Might I add that not every gay is for this gay agenda. It absolutely makes me sick to my stomach...ILL. My partner and I believe marriage is and should be between a man and a woman, just as the BIBLE says. We are not into this EQUAL PUSH. So I ask that everyone please lighten up it's every minority group wanting attention and it's not just blacks and gays. It's everyone in their own mindset Reading this made me smile! I agree with you and I think, as it stands and is viewed in today's world, that marriage is a religious act and the governments on all levels should stay out of it! I'm for civil unions across the board and letting religious groups perform "marriage ceremonies" on their own terms. Marriage was just a way for men to own women anyway, I've been with my man for 10 years and don't need a piece of paper saying we are together, but gay couples and non married, co habitation strait couples should be allowed to apply for benefits married couples get, such as insurance, and things like that. If that was passed then gay couples wouldn't need marriage. They could just do commitment ceremonies. Get something straight....marriage was created by God Almighty...smoke that for awhile...you fornicator. |

The Church needs to stop performing civil ceremonies and just perform religious ceremonies like in France. |

What makes these “clergymen” think gays would WANT them to perform their ceremonies, anyway? Fuck em! Ego driven idiots! |
