Look at some of the big volcanic eruptions they are mushroom shaped,I think the ring about the main rising smoke column is probably caused by the initial blast wave equalising with the ambient air pressure at that altitude,therefore losing the ability to carry smoke/debris any higher and the smoke/debris rolls arround itself as it cools and interacts with the superheated column of air/smoke and the cold atmosphere causing it to roll as it cools and decends. |
