Why Do Christians Believe The Bible To Be Literal?

Some parts are literal.

Some parts are not.


Do you really seek only to justify your unbelief to yourself?

When it says Jesus went up to Jerusalem, that is literal.

When it says God wishes to shelter them like a hen and her chicks, it does not mean God has feathers.

What seems to be your problem here?

Do you say everything is supposed to be all literal or all figurative or metaphorical, one or the other only?

I am saying that the bible can only be taken one way or the other. It is an allegory or it is ALL literal. You can't have it both ways. If it is all literal. then where are the talking snakes? Where are the faith healers? Where are the ones stopping all natural disasters? I do not deny Creator Source, I deny that there ever was a real Horus, I mean Jesus.

Christians are desperate to believe this because they want to live forever.

More fundamentally, they KEEP believing it DESPITE the IDIOCY, because they are SCARED to burn in hell with the devil FOREVER.

How can you even begin to take something so serious without even asking your preacher why the Bible has at least 495 contradictions? If you read at least a few of these with an open mind, you should start to question things. That is, if you have a brain. I know I would have a hard time believing something so messed up. I never believe something just because the preacher said so.

Why do people keep asking stupid f-ing questions with obvious answers in an attempt to shill? You obviously have Internet access, use it... A little research goes along way... If you take my advice you'll learn not "all" Christians act alike nor do they take the bible literally. For example, from my research I've learned not all atheists are douchebags like you.

Welcome aboard BeeBee. As with any post I do, I only bring out the negative Christians. Not one single one of them have even contemplated trying to answer my question. I know why too....they were told to JUST believe and do not question, because grand-dad and grand-ma believed, and they said it was true. It's not their fault though, they believe as they are brain washed since birth. They most likely still, send their kids to the public fool system and vaccinate them against the nasty little germs. That's another topic for another time.

If I new absolutely nothing about the Bible, but I read a verse that told me "these things are an allegory", I would say, wait a minute, that's not what the preacher said! He said the bible is literal. This is the problem I have run into since proclaiming that the Bible is astrological.

I challenge any Christian to at least ask their preacher why some parts are taking literally and some are not? I already know the answer, because I was told the same thing...."that's the way God wanted it", so everyone would not understand. Wow! How damn unfair and selfish is that? Only the people who think they understand the word of Horus, I mean Jesus will make it into the kingdom of Heaven.

The Bible, if taken literal is so unfair, God is not going to allow children, paraplegics and people who never heard or understood his word to make it. The verse that supports this, which the Christians ignore is, You have to accept Jesus to be saved...hmmm...How does one do that, when they are mentally retarded? No one can enter the kingdom, unless he comes through Christ. It's not automatic. I guess there are a lot of people screwed. BTW, there is no forgiveness or allowance. I know this because I have read your astrology book. That is, unless you think that part is an allegory LOL!

My experiences are that only the messed up, culty types take it literal. The rest take it as a guide - stories that speak to you in guidance so that you know what you need to work on in life. Kind of like when you go to Sunday service only one Sunday a year, but somehow every verse quoted & everything the Pastor says makes you feel guilty about the way you've been living your life...
