The author of this article is taking its readers for drooling idiots. Anyone with an IQ of over 40 will remember that it was these regions that held a refunded where the citizens voted overwhelmingly to become part of Russia, and the when request was denied by the Russians, opted for autonomy (I suppose this option was better that that mass-murdering Western Nazi Puppet, Poroshenko, murdering your people without his 4th Reich getting a fight they’d never forget)
