Re: new puppy
Another reason why I don't want to get a create is because my other dog doesn't have one and he's housebroken and does totally fine while I'm away.

What if I get her a crate and lock her in while I'm gone? It's not fair for her to be in one while my other dog can free roam.

Its fine, the puppy is like a kid. Fair has nothing to do with it. I would definitely crate train. Crate trained dogs end up good dogs and they love the crate. Its not a discipline thing, its their den, after a week or 2 the dog will want to be in the crate when its time to chill.

If you want to be "fair", get a second crate for you other dog or get a 4/8 split cage and leave the door open on the older dogs side.

I use a 4x8 cage for when Im not home and a crate on each floor for my dog to utilize when she chooses.

Another problem I have is the enclosed space. She's a sheltie and needs exercise. If I leave and she's in the crate she's not getting the exercise she needs.
