Yeah, I've wondered that about knowing what is poisonous, etc. And how can you tell if animal you are about to eat has rabies? Things that make you go hmmm.

Right on Black Jim, know how ya feel bro, as someone said a few pages back, I could take a stray bullet from an illegal alien on the very first day, hope not, but you never know. This thread is for info on how to survive after a disaster or NWO takeover, or any other calamity to befall a person. Could get lost in the mountains or desert just hiking around, info here could help you out if you have read it.
Plus, being informed and HAVING some supplies WILL give a person some peice of mind, if for nothing else, then it is worth it. To me at least.

hubby recommends a single stage rocker for reloading. you do one round at a time this way, but it's a smaller, portable unit that doesn't require power.
he's willing to advise anyone on types of powder pertaining to your personal weapon.
he also recommends any pistol over 9mm, such as .40, .44, or .45. the reason for this is during his time in iraq and kuwait, he took note that the 9mm didn't have the knock-down power it's claimed to have.
the .223 takes 3 rounds to equal the knock-down power of a .308. the 7.62x39 is accurate up to 500 yards. will kill deer or man, it will not kill a bear!
7.62x54 (.308) is an excellent all around killing round. if you are re-loading for yourself, he suggests a barnes xxx bullet. one of the most important things for any weapon is to keep it clean. that doesn't mean once a year, just before hunting season!
silicon wipe-down rags are excellent for keeping weapons clean.
get stainless steel guns if you can afford them.
last but definitely not least, practice, practice, practice!! become proficient with, and totally familiarize youself with the weapon(s) you will be using.
the springfield xd.45 is a weapon that any man or woman can use accurately.
brand new, with extra clips, holster, belt clip and clip loader in one kit comes to less than $600.00. |

LOTS of ammo for trading...
better get the stuff now and learn to use it...
kind of like gardening... it's too late to say oops maybe next spring we can eat again...
that's what lots of folk don't realise... you gotta have enough food water and warmth to last through the winter until summer food time again...
and in the cities, it is not going to happen that way...
myself, I have been concentrating on alternative fuel vehicles ( biodiesel and veggie ), and supplies to trade...
and as far as fishing, better stock up on trotline string NOW and hooks, cuz' when EVERYBODY is wanting to buy some... there aint enough to go around...
buy the stuff you need to make food NOW...
don;t wait... if it really is an end of the world situation... there will be plenty of time for gathering...

something i think you should think about is timescales here
everyone seems to be worried about food, understandable from a western perspective, macdonalds pangs etc
but lets take a reality check here
you can go for
3 hours without shelter
3 days without water
3 months without food
so taking that into consideration ... i would sugggest the following
pack yourself a tarp or poncho or something for shelter
enough water for say ... a week? 2 litres minimum, but better rations than nothing
small amount of food, multivitamins
this should last you until the initial madness dies down if you can get out of it and stay hidden
after a week or so you may want to find others who were prepared and set about helpnig each other
remember, food is your last priority so make it something nice like chocolate peanuts!
shelter from the elements, water and lastly food
i know the you think you will starve if you dot have your macdonalds everyday but, youd be amazedhow little food we need ... and how dependant we are on water
one last thing, man cannot live for a second without chi ... keep a happy heart
water water everywhere ... and not a drop to drink

your 7.62x51 is for a bolt action rifle, a hunting round.
the 7.62x54 is a nato round for semi-auto and automatic weapons.
both are still .308. |

I've been seein some good points about food, energy bars, peanuts stuff like that might be more prudent in the initial phases, Shelter is a must, no matter what, and good ole h2o, for sure, you CAN survive without food for a lot longer than you can without water or shelter. Some good points have been made about that on this thread, opened my own eyes a little more.
