A 6.0 is just an 'earthquake'. I would say that anything above a 7.2 would be a 'big release' and anything above 7.8 would be a very big release. |

You have to realize that the amount of weight and pressure involved here is enormous, and that the energy releases make hydrogen bombs look like toys. Pressure will try to find the easiest way to relieve itself and this volcano is the emergency relief valve for the subduction zone at least with regards to the Juan de Fuca plate subducting under the North American Plate.
