There are 8 volcanos in Indonesia on red alert right now. [link to www.volcanodiscovery.com] And then I got distracted watching a video of sakurajima's eruption from yesterday. Lots and lots of activity right now. The Internet is a confusing place, where nothing is as it seems - Joshuah Bearman |

[link to ees2.geo.rpi.edu] they watch this thing like hawks now try FINDING a seismic trace from Toba..... also, Sinabung is just north of it, and it is VERY active lately |

[link to www.google.co.uk (secure)] the area referenced in the OP is on the south east shore of the lake, close to Balige on that map so, Sinabung, to the North west, erupting like mad, and now the South east of the lake heating up too? hmmm |

Could be why all these volcanoes have been waking up without warning the past few months. Quoting: GodAmongUs I have a theory on this. I think the earth shrinks and expands ever so slightly, like its breathing on a geological scale. We are headed towards a solar grand minimum, a lot less solar activity means less heating. So the earth is exhaling. This cycle would be dependent on the sun's electromagnetic interaction with the earths core. If you take the earth's crust, its saturated with water, deep down, miles down, it superheated. heated water expands and presses the ground above upwards. If it were too cool, even slightly, the water pressure would be lowered and it would shrink the crust. Doesn't have to be by very much. Now the crust has volcanic plumes breaking through the crust. Like pores on your skin. If the crust were to shrink, or shift towards the center of the earth, its would be like someone pressing a zit, and the magma in the volcanic plumes would come out oozing or popping. It may be that volcanic activity is precursor to an ice age. Volcanic ash in the atmosphere would also help to block the sun and cool the earth further. And if the earth's crust were to cool enough, the water deep in the ground could be pressed out onto the surface and cause a great flood. This would explain the worldwide outbreak of volcanic activity and tie it to the one thing we know is occurring, a solar grand minimum. Perhaps the warming period since the maunder minimum was only a pause and this is the continuation. Pheculatus |

[link to www.livescience.com] Yeah I did some digging, too. I mean, I've heard of Toba, but I live like on top of Yellowstone, so it's always been the one on my radar. I think I'd prefer to be in the Yellowstone blast zone than watch Toba devastate in slow motion. This is a legit concern, though. Look at all of the seismic and volcanic activity lately. |

People of North Sumatra smelling weird sulfur type smells. 1883 eruption of Krakatoa in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) began in the afternoon of August 26, 1883 On August 27, two thirds of Krakatoa collapsed in a chain of titanic explosions, destroying most of the island and its surrounding archipelago. Additional alleged seismic activity continued to be reported until February 1884, though reports of those after October 1883 were later dismissed by Rogier Verbeek's investigation. It was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history, with at least 36,417 deaths being attributed to the eruption itself and the tsunamis it created. Significant additional effects were also felt around the world. |
