" My father did that to me after beating me badly at age 12. The reason? I got C's on my report card, and laughed at a VD film in our jr high science class. I never forgot, or, forgave him for those outrageous punishments |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69425531 Yes there are, but is it starting to become more common it seems for children to take their own lives. Younger and younger. For all sorts of reasons, but mainly it seems like bullying, which in my opinion, public shaming falls under. Real parental discipline takes place between a child and their parent only. On a one on one level. Not you, your child and a video that you'll then upload online. Shame can be a very powerful motivator for good behavior. People older than 40 remember that. No beating I ever got was worse than my mother softly saying to me, "I'm ashamed of what you have done." Stop you dead in your tracks. It is very sad about what happened to this girl. It is not known what caused this, more needs to be known. Maybe she accepted the consequences of her behavior and decided she couldn't live with it anymore. Maybe not, no one knows yet. In the end, it was her decision to propel herself off that overpass. Where was her mother? It's fucked up cutting off a girls hair for a punishment, then uploading it online... mean and controlling behaviour rings alarm bells for me.. If she killed herself because of a hair cut, well that is extreme, if it really was just that, duno, something feels off to me. A child should always know that she/he can always count on the parents, no matter what. Punishment should be a family affair, not a public humiliation. That said, the father should be be treated mercifully, since he made a grievous error in judgment and will suffer for it the rest of his life. |

These schools are a hot bed of pressure, not from school work but from classmates and school officials. This is why our education system is so messed up and why we're trailing last in almost everything regarding education. You don't hear about this kind of major kind of crap going on in schools through out Europe, because there isn't this type of pressure on kids. |

I read somewhere else it was her stepdad and he burned all her clothes, forced her to go to school in boy clothes, and then had the principal humiliate her over the loudspeaker telling everyone her dad wouldn't let her run for a school office because she disobeyed. She was crying and her friends told teachers she was suicidal. No adult helped her. She was completely abandoned, abused, and publicly humiliated by the people who should have protected her. She truly felt her life was over. I doubt her mom, stepdad, or principal feel guilt or will face any consequences. Monsters. |

On Saturday, Izabel Laxamana got out of a car and jumped from a highway overpass, landing on Interstate 5 below, police said. She was rushed to a local hospital where she later died. The suicide came after a 15-second video showing her father questioning Laxamana after cutting off her hair as punishment for unspecified behavior was shared online. This is beyond sad. Parents should not be shaming their children publicly as punishment. What is wrong with people, when did everyone forget how to raise their children? At the same token, when did kids reach the point they'd rather kill themselves than deal with the consequences of their actions?? This is a sad, sad world we live in. So? |

I'll bet there is less than 1% of the female mothers under say 40,(shame we have to qualify that now isn't it?) on GLP right now that have EVER washed their children's mouths out with soap. And don't tell me they have never deserved it by something they have said. Lots of effective discipline. Best advice I ever got on it was, Start small, work your way up, if the child doesn't learn the first time. Make an impression. Never use your hand on a child. And count to 1000. Then count to 10, 000. THEN discipline the child. “We have assembled the most extensive and inclusive Voter Fraud Organization in the history of America”—Joe “SippyCup” Biden Joe Biden will never be the man Michelle Obama is The worst thing about dying is that you become a democratic voter for eternity |

Sometimes parents today feel so frustrated that they want to get their point across someway, somehow. Certainly the suicide is terribly sad and should have never happened but, seriously, I would be willing to bet that it would have happened over something else eventually with this girl. Something was very wrong with this child and I'm not so sure it had anything to do with the parents. There was nothing "extreme" about the "punishment". No way and right now my heart breaks for the father and for what he is feeling.
