Yes there are, but is it starting to become more common it seems for children to take their own lives. Younger and younger. For all sorts of reasons, but mainly it seems like bullying, which in my opinion, public shaming falls under. Real parental discipline takes place between a child and their parent only. On a one on one level. Not you, your child and a video that you'll then upload online.

Parents should present as united with their children.If parents have turned against their children publicly, this is a hurt that will probably never heal.In this case it will never be known if things would heal.
A child should always know that she/he can always count on the parents, no matter what. Punishment should be a family affair, not a public humiliation.
That said, the father should be be treated mercifully, since he made a grievous error in judgment and will suffer for it the rest of his life.

In one of the comments on youtube it says he burned her clothes, smashed her guitar, made her wear oversized men's clothes to school, among other things.

She didn't kill herself over a hair cut. She did it because she was abused long term. I guarantee it.

Moron parents. These schools are a hot bed of pressure, not from school work but from classmates and school officials. This is why our education system is so messed up and why we're trailing last in almost everything regarding education.

You don't hear about this kind of major kind of crap going on in schools through out Europe, because there isn't this type of pressure on kids.

A 13-year-old Washington girl took her own life after her father recorded a video of him punishing her, sparking a debate over public shaming videos posted online by parents.

On Saturday, Izabel Laxamana got out of a car and jumped from a highway overpass, landing on Interstate 5 below, police said. She was rushed to a local hospital where she later died.

The suicide came after a 15-second video showing her father questioning Laxamana after cutting off her hair as punishment for unspecified behavior was shared online.





This is beyond sad. Parents should not be shaming their children publicly as punishment. What is wrong with people, when did everyone forget how to raise their children? At the same token, when did kids reach the point they'd rather kill themselves than deal with the consequences of their actions?? This is a sad, sad world we live in.

That's a good post. Yes discipline should be between the parent and the child - the family. It's about loyalty.

Public shaming does not indicate loyalty in any way shape or form! And putting it on the internet? Talk about betrayal. So sorry for this young girl.
